HoratioWondersocks Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Hello All I've just installed fs9 on a new pc running Windows Ten. Before I started the whole process I noticed it was actually possible to run my backed up version from its usb drive . I didn't actually try beyond the opening screens ,but would 9 have performed as well from this external drive as my new internal one.? I have heard that there can be lagging (for instance scenery lag ) when using a USB connected drive. If it had run as well ,I may have made an awful lot of of work for myself getting 9 onto the new PC. Thanks Andrew
HoratioWondersocks Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 Ok I think I have the answer (No) by searching online. Andy.
loki Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Well, it depends. FS9 itself will run from a USB drive, though loading times will be impacted if it's a USB 2 drive. The part that can be an issue is whether or not any of your add-ons require registry settings to run. The base sim registry settings can be repaired with the Flight1 repair tool, but add-on registry settings require a reinstall. This typically only affects commercial add-ons, and most, if not all, freeware would be okay.

I have just installed fs9 on a new W10 pc and it's fine, but was just curious to know whether an external USB would perform as well as the internal one. Thanks Andrew
