Graphics card for HP Z600

I am looking at buying a refurbished HP Z600 workstation, running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, for general computing and also for running FS9. At present I am using a small-form HP 6000 and FS9 runs quite well. But I want 3d-clouds, no pauses and a few more sliders over to the right. I use Ultimate Terrain and Ground Environment Pro.

The Z600 has four cores, a 630 watt PSU and plenty of RAM. I will be loading FS9 onto an SSD. Specs available here: https://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/product_detail/18778/HP-Z600-Tower-PC-Xeon-Hex-Core-X5650-2-66GHz-Processor-12GB-RAM-2TB-Windows-7-Professional/

Can anybody advise me on what Nvidea graphics card to buy please? PCI slots are available.

Many thanks,

David

Hi David, any NVidia GTX 500 series or above with 2GB VRAM will monster FS2004 on this workstation, and used prices are quite reasonable these days.

HOWEVER, I think you could get a much better setup than this for less money elsewhere:

I'm thinking of getting one myself in the New Year Sales...

Thanks for info - must have Win 7 for all the other stuff I run on the computer. Also I notice that gaming computers are all Win 10 and only have 3 or 4 USB ports. I have 5 USBs in continual use.

All the best and have a good Christmas.

Thank you -the GTX 950 is £149 to £169 on Amazon UK today. Together with the GTX 500 series on my Amazon wish list.

If that car is your GT40 I envy you. Back in 1970 I remember chasing one along Brighton sea-front on my BSA Goldstar - beat him off the lights every time but then all I saw were the rear lights...

I wish. The car is #1012, never street legal (http://emotion-automobiles.com/gt40/ ). Owned by a local attorney who raced it frequently in vintage events for about fifteen years (a friend-of-a-friend put in a good word and I got to drive it in a couple of races about 25 years ago, when that photo was taken); it is now in the hands of a private collector in Italy who, I am told, still races it.
