Aircraft Rolls Without Applying Throttle

AFS3

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with certain prop-planes in FSX. I barely move the throttle and the King Air reacts as if I'd applied maximum thrust. And as soon as I turn on the engines of a recently downloaded Jetstream, it behaves as if the throttle had already been set to maximum; the plane will begin to roll and rapidly increase speed without ever touching the throttle. Curiously, the twin engine Baron works just fine without difficulty, so it has to be a configuration problem related to the aircraft, not the joystick.

I tried searching the forum but my keywords and google questions simple do not return the results I expect. No worries if no one has experienced the same problem, but, it would be nice to fly into smaller mountain airports where jets can't land. Thanks!

Hi AF,

Ignoring the title of your post and everything that follows "I barely move the throttle and the King Air reacts as if I'd applied maximum thrust." I'll make a suggestion. There is a "Aircraft reload" command that is not assigned by default. I suggest that you assign a key to activate this function. There are occasions where values are carried over from the saved flight and cause strange problems when starting a new flight. After loading the aircraft do an aircraft reload before doing any thing else. This is a good habit.

It was my throttle. I re-calibrated it and discovered the throttle axis is the inverse from what the calibration program detects coming from the joystick. I assume that when the joystick was manufactured, something inside was installed in a reverse manner so that the throttle lever idle position, which should have translated as 0% power, was actually being interpreted as 100% power. Thinking the sensitivity setting was too high (denoted by the highlight as shown in FSX Options, Settings, Controls) I had moved it further to the left thinking this would reduce throttle sensitivity. This adjustment, however, seemed to have been interpreted by FSX as near-maximum power (I'm guessing). So to prove that thought, I moved it all the way to maximum (to the right), and immediately the engines spooled down to idle, matching the controller's thrust lever's idle position.

I expect that when I upgrade to a better controller with a correctly installed throttle mechanism, I will have to reset that sensitivity setting back to normal or I'll have the same problem again. I just hope the max sensitivity setting does not cause other problems external to power settings. It's only a workaround, but for now, problem solved. Thanks.
