gypsymoth
I've noticed ATC often uses "Experimental" - can someone explain why when it's not used on any aircraft cfg ? Thanks.
mrzippy
Look in your aircraft.cfg under [General] what do you see there for the aircraft description? Post it please! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
JSkorna
Because the stock ATC doesn't know what to call you. You need to install Edit Voice Pack for FS2004 and use that to add extra voice callouts to FS. It doesn't matter what the aircraft description says. http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png
il88pp
Install "EditVoicePack" and use it to update the voicepack to get all the callsigns. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
gypsymoth
Thanks for info. The aircraft cfg has: [General] atc_type= atc_model=sh36 editable=1 performance=Max Cruise Speed\t315 kts
ColR1948
Also try this if you don't like Experimental: [General] atc_type=SILENT atc_model=sh36
gypsymoth
Oh I don't mind that appellation. At least amongst all the chit chat I know they mean me! I just wondered why it was used.
il88pp
You should hear the callsign of the airline you selected in: "select aircraft"-->"Details". If you don't hear that, you don't have that callsign by default. Many AI planes will also be called 'Experimental', as their sounds are also not there either. To get the sounds, install EVP. With EVP installed, you can still select airline: "Experimental" if you prefer to hear that for your user plane. EVP is not a program that runs in the background. gypsymoth
I'm not sure where the details you mention are, but this is Mike Stone's Shorts 360 & the following is from the Aircraft cfg: [fltsim.0] title=Shorts 360 paint1 (Stone) sim=shorts360 model= panel= sound= texture=1 kb_checklists= kb_reference= atc_id_color=0xffffffffff atc_id=EI-BEM ui_manufacturer=Shorts ui_type=360 ui_variation=AerLingus description=Shorts 360 atc_heavy=0 atc_airline=AerLingus atc_flight_number= I've added atc_flight_number=360 to tell atc what I want to use so no more experimental. mrzippy
I was looking for this section of the aircraft.cfg. [General] atc_type= atc_model=sh36 editable=1 performance= Something more along the line of this would probably work much better including adding Editvoicepack. [General] performance=Length: 70.83 ft\nWing Span: 74.83 ft\nWeight:16900 lb Empty\nMax T\/O Weight:26,000 lb\nPower: 2 x 1,327 SHP P&W PT6A65R Turboshafts\n 5 blades prop\nMax Cruise: 220 Kts TAS\nCeiling: 10,000 ft\nRange: 550 Naut Miles atc_type=SHORTS atc_model=SH36 Category=airplane Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! il88pp
The details are in fs9 where you select the aircraft to fly. What you compe there overrides (not overwrites) aircraft.cfg lines. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
gypsymoth
Thanks for info. I have the editvoice pack you suggested but how long does it take to install ? I have a fast computer but it's been installing for 15 mins now............
gypsymoth
At long last EditVoice installed & I found interesting info in the ReadMe. It seems if these two entries in the aircraft cfg are left empty as here then ATC will use 'Experimental' [General] atc_type= atc_model= I put Auster in atc type & got Auster instead of Experimental without running the software. ColR1948
That's right, and as I said in my above post, if you have an AI aircraft and put atc_type=SILENT it will say the aircraft type and/or "AIRCRAFT", sometimes sound better than "Experimental." Edit voice pack is very good, EVP as it is often referred as, you can scroll through the many call signs and use one of those as well in the Airline= Then EVP will call you or the AI by that call sign. There is a guy on here called John Hinson and he knows EVP inside out and is always willing to help with that. You go on John's site here and get more voice packs: http://www.adventure-unlimited.org/files/index.php
il88pp
I thought you were not talking about AI planes but about user aircraft. For user aircraft you just change it in "ATC name". After starting FS2004, in the menu. See image at bottom left here: http://www.simscape.fr/Learjet.html No idea why tghe install took so long. Make sure you got the version of EVP for FS2004. gypsymoth
Mmmm, I don't have any AI except the default aircraft that comes with FS2004 so I'm not sure how they entered the picture. My initial ? was about my 'user' aircraft. I've solved the use of 'experimental' by editing the aircraft cfg as desciribed previously of the few that needed it. EVP did install but I might removed it as I cannot see myself using it.
