BlueAero
OK so I am sort of a masochist I guess because I like to fly in difficult weather conditions. I have REX 4 TDEE and REX Weather Architect and love them except for one thing. It seems no matter how violent I set the cell details regarding turbulence and shear I seem to fly right through the most dangerous and darkest of thunderstorms without so much as the slightest wing-waggle. This is frustrating since turbulence and shear are a huge part of the environmental realism that can really enhance the experience of flying with FSX. REX tells you to disable turbulence and thermal effects in FSX so I'm wondering what factors come into play here that are creating this issue for me. Anyone with a similar experience? Any response is most appreciated.
Mithras
It can be done, I'm using Active Sky 16 and my flight from Unalakleet to St Mary's was rough as hell, ii felt sorry for the passengers! Its effect in storms is hair raising, even on autopilot the plane can suffer immense updrafts and downdrafts. Using A2A Accufeel also helps, it has sliders for turbulence extra to your weather software. I cant help you with REX though, I'm afraid ... - Paul Elliott [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Come and follow my recreation of this historic light here: HERE

If I have to I'll bolt AS16 on top of REX 4 TDEE, add GEX, UTX, MCE, GSX....what else? I want it as real as possible. In the meantime, any help from REX users would really be helpful.... BlueAero
No offense at all is meant to prior contributors whatsoever but this forum from a "here and now" standpoint is becoming less and less helpful to me....at least regarding my present question is concerned. So no one here is a REX user willing to chime in on this? OK, well then here's what I've decided to do. Apparently REX 4 TD (including the brand-new enhanced edition that I just purchased a couple of days ago) is a perfect compliment to Active Sky 2016 or Active Sky Next. If so, and since the newest version of REX 4 TD EE allegedly includes Soft Clouds, if I simply run it concurrent with AS 2016 in no particular order (some people say they load REX first and then AS, others do it vice-versa), apparently it works seamlessly. It needs to be noted that REX 4 TD EE is NOT a weather engine and should never be considered to be as such in that regard. Additionally, I'm thinking that nothing else other than GEX and UTX (or perhaps something from ORBX, which looks awesome but of which I totally fail to comprehend how it meshes with anything else I presently have) would be needed in order to complete an optimal visual experience with FSX as a flight simulator. Would that it were that a comprehensive package would be offered by someone and, indeed perhaps someone already has but if they are I am certainly unaware of it as of this writing. First and foremost at this juncture, I want appropriate turbulence to be manifested when I fly through a thunderstorm just like it would be in a real-life scenario and I am thinking that my solution is probably the correct method to ensure that this takes place. If anyone reads this in time to offer evidence otherwise and subsequently changes my mind, I'd be happy to hear from you. Otherwise, I'm taking the dive into the world of AS 2016 and teaming it up with REX 4 TD EE. It's worth noting that I also have a contingency in place via REX Essentials Plus Overdrive which is as close to a comprehensive sky package as you can get with FSX from my perspective. Here is the combination recommendations regarding FSX and REX that I got from their tech department: For airport enhancements - use REX Worldwide Airports HD For clouds and water - use REX Texture Direct w/Soft Clouds Enhanced Edition For weather - (custom weather) use REX Weather Architect For weather - (real-time weather) use REX Essentials until we release REX Sky Force So, if I don't use REX Essentials Plus Overdrive as a texture and weather generator (which, although it is really impressive when it comes to clouds and such, it does nothing from my experience as it applies to turbulence....as neither does REX 4 TD EE or earlier editions), I am surmising that I can simply run REX 4 TD EE and AS 2016 in tandem and they will give me what I am seeking as it pertains to weather realism, especially turbulence. If I am in error, please enlighten and lead me out of the woods if you would be so kind. Thank you!
keefpee
Another thing to try for turbulence response is to reduce the pitch, roll & yaw stability values in the aircraft.cfg, & also reduce the aileron effectiveness as this seems to be enhanced with the decrease in roll stability. Experimenting on a model I have in development I had to reduce the stability values to 0.1 & reduce the aileron effectiveness to 0.5. This was in FS9 with 8 kts, gusting to 14, with max turbulence & shear. Bog std installation. Not perfect as there was some auto stability, but not enough to fly hands off. Will try in FSX later on, makes it a bit more fun! Good luck. Keith
BlueAero
Hmmm....interesting suggestion, Keith. I will try it and see what result I can obtain. Thank you!
Mithras
Dont forget A2As wonderful Accusim, works automatically with all your aircraft, includes sounds of brakes, airframe rattles, wind rush, and extra turbulence slider (either global all aircraft) or just one airvraft. It is worth 10x its price!! - Paul Elliott [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Come and follow my recreation of this historic light here: HERE
BlueAero
Wow, Mithras, Accusim looks to add a real extra dimension to FSX from the demo videos! I will be anxious to get this added to my simulator to enhance the flying experience even further. Thank you! I also made the decision to add Active Sky 2016 to my stable of add-ons and I must say that I am incredibly impressed! Coupled with REX 4 TDEE and REX HD Airports, AS2016 completes a weather engine and texture environment combo that is nothing short of outstanding. I put it to the test by creating an historic weather scenario flight plan from KIAH-KCRP on Saturday morning, August 26 for my CRJ-700. The flight path took me right onto the teeth of Hurricane Harvey and holy cow did I ever get some serious turbulence!! So much so, in fact, that the aircraft became overstressed and the flight ended in disaster as likely would have been the case in real life. I intend to retry the route in an F-18 and see if I can actually complete the flight having the airplane come apart or crashing. I am just beginning to explore the different possibilities with the AS/REX combo but thus far I can state unequivocally that I am pleased beyond any previous expectations so I can highly recommend this to any prospective flight simmer who wants the airborne experience to be as close to the real thing as possible. It appears that Accusim will take this experience to an even higher plateau so I will be anxious to acquire it as well. Thanks again!
