jandjfrench
Hi, Panel (view next)? I have this assigned to "W" but can't figure out what it does. It does not sequence through the Instrument panels. I came across this when looking into a way to cycle the panels, If anyone knows how, please post. Thanks, Jim F.
Ray Hff
It cycles through various 2D panel options. Load the default Cessna 172 and go to the 2D panel. Press"W" several times and you'll see several changes.
jandjfrench
Hi Ray, It seems I ask this question every 3 or 4 years. Thanks until then. Jim F
PhantomTweak
The default assignment for the W key in the 2D panel goes from 2D->minipanel->nothing->2D, and around it goes. Of course, you can change it to whatever you like, but that's the default. If the plane doesn't have a minipanel, and you haven't installed a 3rd party one such as Minipanel v3 (which I love), then it goes 2D->nothing->nothing->2d. Exciting, isn't it? Have fun! napamule2
The way to get 'something+something' is to assign a key to 'F10' (2D Cockpit). Then use the 'A' key (next view in category) to cycle thru any panel views. And you have the menu's View dropdown that will list all the different VIEWS you can pick (including FSRecorder views if you have that installed). napamule2
That (Minipanel 3.0) is not what Jim was asking. He wanted to know how the pressing the 'W' key (to get the minipanel (IF AVAILABLE - ie: installed in panel cfg)) works or doesn't work. Answer would be: 'W' cycles to MINIPANEL, and back to 2D panel - if available and installed in panel cfg. If no minipanel is installed you get 'clear' view (no gauges) where the minipanel should be or should of been. PhantomTweak
I hate to argue, Chuck, but if you install Minipanel v3.1 as in the included instructions, you replace the file minipanel.cfg in the gauges folder. Then, if there isn't a minipanel entry in a plane's panel.cfg, it uses the minipanel.cfg in the gauges folder when you hit W. For example, no minipanel entry whatsoever in the FSDT FSX BA plane I dote on so much. I hit F10, I get nothing but a big HUD, which is correct. If I hit W now, I get Minipanel v3.1, W again, I get an empty view forward, as though from the cockpit, but without any kind of cockpit at all. Beautiful view, really. Anyway, W one more time, I get the HUD again. Try it, any plane you like. Install Minipanel v3.1, as instructions specify, and comment out your chosen plane's minipanel entry in the panel.cfg, if one exists. Hit F10 to get your normal 2D cockpit, if it has one, and hit W. See what you get. Easy enough to verify one way or 'tother. You can always uninstall v3.1 if you don't want it, assuming you make a backup of your minipanel.cfg as you should before you install the v3.1. No, this wasn't originally anything at all about Minipanel v3.1. I just used it for an example of what CAN appear when you hit W from a plane's 2D cockpit, if it doesn't have one of it's own. In any event, W from the 2D cockpit=a minipanel. If present, either in the plane's Panel.cfg, or the gauges folder. That's all. Have fun!
