Sonic boom, ( audible and visible ), effect in FSX... How to?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody... Please instruct me on "how" to modify my aircraft and panel configs in FSX to place a visible and audible sonic boom effect in various aircraft within my FSX inventory? I'm running Windows 10 Professional 64 bit. Is there a way to get that quick cloud effect, and the boom that goes with it? Educate me, please? Thank you.
Real pilot, with some flight simming experience. Recently thought of migrating to Prepar3D, version 3, but I'm sticking with FSX, ( now with "Steam", I'm happy with FSX ). No more crashes due to minimal frame rates, but I always seem to need tips and advice. Yes, from everyone. It never ends. Thanks... :rolleyes:

Not sure about the visual effect. I have my F-22 Raptor use a sonic boom in FS2004. I'm not sure if it will work in FSX though. I ripped the gauge out of a Mitsubishi something or other jet.

This plane has "sonic boom effects." Not sure if that's the audio or just the cloud effects, but you could rip it out of here. fsx_tupolev_tu-128_fiddler.zip

I have a great effect from a Dino F-14 that was made for FSX sp2. As far as an audible boom sound, you won't here one in the cockpit. Technically on the ground as the plane flies over.

You can also check in the File Library for a MACH envelope effects file.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

The FSDT F/A-18C v16.1 has a real nice mach sound and condensate cloud, similar to the F-14's, pictured by Mr. Zip.

In it's panel.cfg, the entry that controls it is gauge41=FX!Shockcone,

In the aircraft.cfg, the entry is

.

.

.

smoke.12= -41.00, 0.00, 0.00, Sonic_boom_hornet1

smoke.13= -43.50, 0.00, 0.00, Sonic_boom_hornet2

smoke.14= -46.00, 0.00, 0.00, Sonic_boom_hornet3

smoke.15= -48.50, 0.00, 0.00, Sonic_boom_hornet4

smoke.16= -51.00, 0.00, 0.00, Sonic_boom_hornet5

smoke.17= -28.50, 0.00, 0.00, Sonic_boom_hornet6

Obviously, there's more entries to the smoke system, those are just the pertinent (big word, huh? :rolleyes: ) ones for the mach stuff.

You'd have to download and install the planes to a dummy, or temp folder, so you can access the included effects files, and gauge files for controlling them. Once you get them into your gauges, or panel, folder, and your effects folder, you can add them to just about any airplane, although you might have a little trouble getting a C172 up to that kind of speed ;)

They sure look good on the Hornet. Sound good from an external view too. You have to have the humidity in the air, the low altitude, the right speed, etc etc. Like doing the airshow stuff at Honolulu, or something. They tried to make it as "realistic" as possible, so a lot of environmental factors enter into it. Temp, altitude, pressure, humidity, etc etc.

I like it, anyway.

Have fun!

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!
