alexvletsas
Hello gents, We have entered a turning point with the release of FSW and P3D v4 (yesterday) and most will think of moving from their current platform to one of the new ones. The amount and speed of change will especially affect developers. Thus I created this survey for SimWorks Studios in order to get an idea of where things are headed. It is a four-question survey so we would appreciate you taking the time to answer them. This survey will run until the end of June and will be re-run periodically every few months to gauge the rate of change. Take the Flight Simulator survey Thank you, Alex Vletsas SimWorks Studios SimWorks Studios Facebook page P.S.: entering an e-mail in the survey is not required, but it is encouraged. You won't be getting any spam, it is just to filter out people that will take the survey multiple times.

RatRace
Took your survey but a bit flawed - no mention of Aerofly or X-Plane. Exactly. Always include a category "Other". If "Other" isn't your target group, end the survey with a message "Thank you for taking this survey wish you a pleasant day blah blah ...". Elvensmith
Well looks like I'll be running the virus and malware checks tomorrow. However I did enter a nonsense email address when it asked for it. Is it worth the mods taking action re the thread/link? Also note the OP has yet to respond to comments about the limited scope of the survey. Vern. N2056
There are certain things I will not do on the internet. alexvletsas
The questions assume we are all intending to abandon whatever sim we are currently using as soon as a new one appears. That is what the questions are trying to gauge. I should clarify that the purpose of this is to "gauge" how quickly people think of moving over from the 32-bit sims to P3Dv4/FSW. As we are developing for the "ESP family" right now, I thought it'd be a good idea to ask the FSX-P3Dv3 guys if, how soon and where they plan to upgrade to see where the demand is heading. Most devs do that to their established customer bases, but since we're new and with a small base, I had to probe out. With regards to the e-mail part, it isn't mandatory to enter one, you can move on with a blank/nonsense address and no spam or advertising messages will be sent to anyone, both as stated in the OP. It is just an extra step to avoid double-voters, which seems not to work, unfortunately. Also note the OP has yet to respond to comments about the limited scope of the survey. As I have posted my company's name and website, I wouldn't risk my startup FS company's name to be stuck with the "spammer" banner. Please feel free to get in touch through SWS' contact form or forum to double-check!
alexvletsas
One more note: Understanding the valid concern of some users about spamming, I have removed the optional e-mail field in the beginning for those that see it and are not sure if it is needed. Again, thank you everyone for your replies and feedback. In a month I will close the survey and publish the statistics here if you like.
TightGit
If you really want to know how many simmers will move to one of the new flt sims, why do you load the question with "most will think of moving from their current platform to one of the new ones"? Sounds as if you already know the answer!
jgf
FWIW, I am never one of the first to grab a new piece of software. I wait, see what others say about it in terms of features, stability, bugs, system requirements, etc., then decide. I abandon "old" software only when I deem the benefits of the new to be worth "starting over". As a long time race sim enthusiast I have not embraced the new generation of sims - AC, pcars, rf2, etc - simply because I do not see them as enough of an improvement over what I've been using quite happily for years. And increasingly over the past years marketing has become a major factor in my decisions. The likes of Ubisoft and EA/Origin will get no more of my money, and Steam will never get a penny from me (though in the latter case my ire is directed more towards those developers who release their games solely via Steam, they deprive us of the option of where to spend our money). jgf
Veering a bit off-topic, I think nothing can beat Grand Prix Legends even today... As witnessed by a thriving online community and a continual stream of tracks and mods (the long awaited 1955 F1 mod was just released). GPL has been on my systems since April '98 (I was a beta tester and created the original sounds ...which, for contractual reasons, were never used). napamule2
Wow! A professional survey taker amassing information to give us ('in a month or so') the definitive answer to what is to be the 'ultimate' fate of our flight sims - expressed in numbers and not just words. Oooooh, how exciting - I can't wait. My question is what happens if only 1% of the possible participants participate? And (as has been cited already) if some of them 'cheat' or 'double vote' or 'fake' the answers? Will the developers take a long vacation? Move to Canada? What? Chuck B Napamule i7 2600K @ 3.4 Ghz (Turbo-Boost to 3.877 Ghz), Asus P8H67 Pro, Super Talent 8 Gb DDR3/1333 Dual Channel, XFX Radeon R7-360B 2Gb DDR5, Corsair 650 W PSU, Dell 23 in (2048x1152), Windows7 Pro 64 bit, MS Sidewinder Precision 2 Joy, Logitech K-360 wireless KB & Mouse, Targus PAUK10U USB Keypad for Throttle (F1 to F4)/Spoiler/Tailhook/Wing Fold/Pitch Trim/Parking Brake/Snap to 2D Panel/View Change. RatRace
In concordance with the sarcastic mood, the only good thing about the survey is that it is only 4 questions long. I have been subjected to 40 page surveys in my lifetime!

And (as has been cited already) if some of them 'cheat' or 'double vote' or 'fake' the answers? Will the developers take a long vacation? Move to Canada? What? Chuck B Napamule Hello Chuck, To clarify this I am not a pro-surveyor and the survey will apparently not be 100% valid. To be honest I intend to rerun it periodically, if I am allowed to bump this thread again in a few months. If only 1% takes the survey or there are double and triple-voters, I'll have to filter them out or live with it. If I assumed that the FS community is so ill-minded, I would have left it 20 years ago and wouldn't have started making a living in it. Thankfully it isn't. Even for the heck of it, a lot will answer the four questions honestly as there is nothing to lose. I am sure that nobody will switch when they initially think they will. I think that we are in a time similar to the release of FSX: a completely different platform that took two service packs and acceleration to become mainstream. Back then, I didn't touch it until Acceleration was well-established as I had spent too much time and money in FS9 and I was neck deep on finishing the PA A380 VC well until 2010. Eventually, I wanted to move on. Some people stayed with FS9 like some will choose FSX today. Developing for two so different platforms such as FSX and v4 takes a lot of time and effort, so I would love to know how fast that will happen. Asking doesn't hurt (usually)! :pilot: Sounds as if you already know the answer! I don't! The no-switch answer is available for that reason! DrawyahGames
Took your survey but a bit flawed - no mention of Aerofly or X-Plane. Definitely quite surprised about the lack of X-Plane. ricardo_NY1
Hello gents, We have entered a turning point with the release of FSW and P3D v4 (yesterday) and most will think of moving from their current platform to one of the new ones. No one is moving away from their heavily invested FSX towards the vending machine FSW which will never come close to available add-ons because it will be as dead as MS FLIGHT in a few months. The new P3D is basically the same thing as the previous version. I honestly would not consider this a turning point for the hobby. If I were a software developer, I'd be looking at the momentum X-Plane is getting. Not to say this is the version that does it, but this is so far the version that has had best results in attracting new blood/MSFS users. X-Plane right now only needs a really good Level D type 767 or PMDG type 737 to deliver a fatal blow. God forbid someone comes up with a plug in to make the ATC shine and then it is all over. I enjoyed the MSFS days but X-Plane is the best future we have for flight simming. Ricardo FSThrottle.com
DrawyahGames
X-Plane right now only needs a really good Level D type 767 or PMDG type 737 to deliver a fatal blow. PMDG plan to create a 737 for X-Plane (although the default isn't actually that bad!) and for a good 767, just wait for the Flight Factor one to come out! That'll suit all your needs. 🙂 Check out my YouTube Channel for FSX, X-Plane and other simulator content! https://www.youtube.com/c/Drawyah/
