Has anyone tried FSaerodata? (update to core data for FSX / P3D)

Recommended Posts

Has anyone seen the new addition to P3D and FSX / Steam? A complete downloadable database to update the outdated platform information for sids, stars, vors, dme's, ndb's, etc.?

It is my understanding a subscription is required for both websites below. What I am curious about is does it only make changes to the ways of getting to an airport, but NOT the airports? Such as, if a runway was added, who adds that to the database for the affected runway... ? I guess add it the old fashioned way by downloading or installing addon software?

Any thoughts? Has anyone used this yet?

Navigraph (and I believe that goed s for aerodata as well) updates the navigational data like airways, sid's, starr's, and other navigational changes.

It doesn't change scenery (for example runway designators or ILS frequencies)

These updates are for payware planes. There is one for pmdg, aerosoft, etc. For their fmc only. It does not change the airports, it changes the info on airports in fmc. Can be a problem if the fmc calls it rw10 hdg103, and your airport is still rw11 hdg109.

Installing navigraph data won't make any difference for default planes. (unless you also install a payware fmc in the plane.)

Effectively, you answered your own question: All these datasets do is change the dataset, NOT the underlying scenery or textures. So you will get a mismatch between what you think you should see, and what you actually see on screen.

It's not just runway numbers, if you haven't also updated the magnetic declination then over time ALL the data will become desychronised.

There was a reason that the developers of this software - and by that I mean Microsoft ACES, chose to use the same data for FSX as they had for FS2004. The amount of work involved would require universal changes, not merely a`pick and choose` update of certain files.

The question should however, be addressed to the current developers of the `new` FSW platform as given the eleven years since FSX was released and the fourteen years since the data was compiled for FS2004, the significant differences (and the accuracy you seek) should now be available in FSW. Indeed, MUST now be available in FSW, or else it is useless as a flight simulator, except in the most historic of senses.

If DTG have updated the datasets, then it would be a worthy update to FSX. Trying to update the data you reference alone renders FSX as a sim less accurate, not more.

These updates are for payware planes.

fsAerodata is for the default FSX and P3D navaids, not payware planes. From the fsAerodata.com website:

"Additional to Navaids, the solution updates all approaches, departures and arrival procedures worldwide.

Default navaids are updated (disabled or its frequencies updated). 3rd party addons are not modified.

fsAerodata has been tested with Aivlasoft EFB, Little Navmap, VoxATC, and have some restrictions with FS Commander and Plan-G. More details on compatibility are available on section FAQ on our forum."

It seems to be the payware version of the previously freeware data from Herve Sors' website at: https://www.aero.sors.fr/
