tmckinnin Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Hi I boot u fsx and keep getting this error message please any one help
il88pp Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 This happens when you delete or rename an addon airport folder, and forget to remove it from the scenery library list first. Restore the folder, start fsx. No more error? --> then remove from the list, then delete. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
tmckinnin Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 how do I do that how do I do it as deleted Pattaya airport in fsx airport and removed from scenery then reinstall and never tampered with add-on scenery folder any help please
mrzippy Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 how do I restore the folder please tell me If you deleted the scenery folder Pattaya from the ADDON Scenery folder, you now need to see if it is in your Recycle bin and right-click it and say "Restore". Now you can start FSX and go to the Scenery Library and delete it and then delete the folder from ADDON Scenery folder. If Pattaya is not in the Recycle bin, then you need to re-download and install it to be able to properly delete it. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
tmckinnin Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 I have done that like I deleted all folders from fsx and fsx add-on scenery folders even within fsx and still get the message and even re install it doesn't do anything please help
tmckinnin Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 still works but am still getting the error message even after restoring the files
il88pp Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 These errors are something you need to fix, as they are annoying. But they are not really "errors". This is just a warning, that something that is still in the scenery library list in fsx, does on longer point to an existing folder. It is not an error that would cause an issue with the program. To stop the warning from appearing, you have to put the folder with the addon airport back. And it must be placed in the same location it was before, and the folder must have the exact same name again. You would get the same silly "error" if you renamed the folder of an addon airport. The sim then can't find the addon, and you wouldn't see it when flying. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
longbreak754 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Three solutions to consider here….. Note that all must be done with FSX closed 1. Rename the scenery.cfg file to something like scenery_old.cfg. Start FSX. It will build a new scenery.cfg file based on what it finds. 2. Edit the current scenery.cfg file using Notepad – Make a copy of the current file (as a backup). Right click on the original file and select Edit from the menu listing. If it is the first time you have edited it you will be offered a number of options regarding what app to use – ensure that you select Notepad. Once open you should see a list of entries starting with a [General] section followed by [Area.XXX] sections (the XXX here donate a number – they start at 001). Scroll down to the area number corresponding to that shown in the error message. Some examples of the entries/format you should see….. [Area.115] Title=Addon Scenery Local=Addon Scenery Layer=115 Active=TRUE Required=FALSE [Area.241] Layer=261 Local=Addon Scenery\Scenery\EGQK RAF Kinloss Title=EGQK RAF Kinloss Active=TRUE Required=FALSE In these examples (which are from my .cfg file so will differ from yours) Area.115 is an entry for the default Addon Scenery folder and Area.241 is an entry for a scenery package located within the default area. Note that whilst both entries have the entries listed differently they both work. The key entry to note is the Local= one – this tells FSX where to find the scenery and it is this entry that is often the cause of most error messages. Check that the entry is correct and edit as required – pay particular attention to the full string and spelling, making sure that location and folder names match. Once you have made any changes make sure that you save the changes to the file. 3. Use a scenery config tool – There are many such tools available and some can assist with solving such issues. One such tool that I regularly use and can highly recommend is Scenery Config Editor (SCE)– it can be found HERE and detailed instructions of its use can be found HERE. One useful aspect of SCE is that it has a built-in text editor that, when opened, does so at the entry for the problem area. All the work required to add new scenery is done without using the FSX scenery setting page. My final word is regarding adding scenery in general. You don’t need to use the default Addon Scenery folder. You can, within reason, place it anywhere, including outside of the main FSX folder or even on a different drive. This is a method that I have used for years (in both FSX and FS2004). All that is required is that the folder structure is correct (i.e. that it contains a Scenery and, if required, a Texture subfolder to hold the appropriate files) and that FSX has been told where to find it (i.e it has been activated within FSX). Some basic examples of what will and won’t work are: Will work: C:\My Addon Scenery\Scenery\ C:\My Addon Scenery\Texture\ C:\My Addon Scenery\Airports\UK\Scenery\ C:\My Addon Scenery\Airports\UK\Texture\ C:\My Addon Scenery\EGQK RAF Kinloss\Scenery\ C:\My Addon Scenery\EGQK RAF Kinloss\Texture\ D:\My Addon Scenery\Detailed Airports\EGQK RAF Kinloss\Scenery\ D:\My Addon Scenery\Detailed Airports\EGQK RAF Kinloss\Texture\ Won’t work: C:\My Addon Scenery\ C:\My Addon Scenery\Scenery\Texture\ C:\My Addon Scenery\Airports\UK\ D:\My Addon Scenery\EGQK RAF Kinloss\ For reference, a corresponding entry within the scenery.cfg file would look like this: [Area.241] Layer=261 Local=D:\My Addon Scenery\Detailed Airports\EGQK RAF Kinloss Title=EGQK RAF Kinloss Active=TRUE Required=FALSE Regards Brian
