FSX:se screen goes black when esc button clicked

My grandson uses my steam version of FSX on his computer when he is visiting us. Every time that the esc button is clicked (when he wants to exit the game early for instance) - the screen just goes black. Also if he uses the alt key and then uses exit on the file menu the same happens. Anyone got any ideas why this might be happening at all? Thanks

Just for troubleshooting: does closing the sim via the menu options work normally?

Win10? If so: go to windowed mode first. (Alt+Enter).

 

(I think there is a more permanent fix too, but can't remember what that was)

Only way I can close it at moment is using the windows key to get out of game and then clicking on icon on bottom bar and exiting it.

Yes this is a Win 10 system so I will try out the windowed mode when either I or my grandson are on it next.

 

 

Odd thing is though - I don't have an issue with it on my own pc which is also a Win 10 os

It should just work though. Does the sim close when you hit CTRL+BREAK? If not try this:

In Steam go to 'library'. Right click on FSX:SE and go to properties. Click on 'local files' and select 'Verify local files integrity'. Let it run and do its thing.

Any erroneous or damaged files will now be corrected and reinstalled.
