jandjfrench Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Hi, I realize this is the FSX forum but am most interested to what FSXers have to say. After viewing the video I'm hopeful. It seems they took into account that the longevity of Flight Simulator is not solely hopping in the plane and flying. I previously posted this at FS Developer when Dovetail requested input as to what was wanted in the new simulator. Overall I think things looked very nice. The only things I personally did not care for were that the roads were simply pasted over the underlying scenery and they've maintained the prop strobing effect. Anxious to hear what you think. Founder Nels_Anderson Posted May 3, 2017 Founder Posted May 3, 2017 It's going to be very interesting to see what they are able to include in the first release. When you look at FSX or X-Plane 11 and consider the years (decades) of development behind them the task of creating a sim from scratch is rather daunting so I'm hopeful they are up to the challenge. Hopefully the flightsim community will get behind them rather than the all too often brutal complaining about anything that's less than perfect. We're our own worst enemies that way sometimes...
CoffeeNZ Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I'm really excited. FSX is definitely showing its age, and I'm looking forward to seeing performance improvements. I'm also hoping to see a more elegant way to install addons and mods, and I think with Steam integration, we might just see that. The video looks very promising; they seem to be making the right noises about how important fidelity is; I got very excited when I saw the rain beading on the cockpit windows! Assuming it's still a proper 'sim' then I'm really optimistic and looking forward to this new chapter :)
CoffeeNZ Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I just noticed on the steam page, Accu-Feel is included out of the box, as are Orbx FTX Global textures. This is pretty big.
llivaudais Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 As I started to read the description at Steam, I was figuratively taking out the wallet and looking for the price until I read dx9. DX9? are they serious? They specify a GTX 970 minimum and are only using DX9? Unless that's a misprint then it's not gonna happen for me. I'll stick with FSX and P3D. I put the wallet back in my pocket. L. Hooked since FS4... now flying: self-built i7-4790 at 4 GHz; GA-Z97X mobo; GTX 970; 16GB gskill; quiet, fast and cool running. bmatt569 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Nels, We can be a pretty tough crowd for sure. I'm definitely with you in that I hope we give them the benefit of the doubt for awhile until we see what the product really is. At my first glance it appears that they have a well thought out plan. I for one am looking forward to its release. Bill Mattson [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Airspeed, altitude and ideas, bad to run out of all three at the same time

ryapad Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I've seen a couple of misconceptions about that. They said they are moving AWAY from Dx9, and then he mumbled that they were moving to Dx11. Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://gac16.blogspot.com/
zswobbie1 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Remember, it will be an 'early access' release, a nice description of Beta! Also, it will NOT be backward compatible to FSX. So, consider it as a brand new sim! Robin Cape Town, South Africa
oldcrusty Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Well I have had look and share the sentiments here about a proper 64bit system being long overdue, given that probably 75% of the issues FSX users have is that is a 32bit system generally running on a 64 bit machine. I seriously doubt the product will be a dud from that perspective but there are number of issues that put me in hold mode. 1. The sort of hardware that I will need to run it and I am not interested in upgrading hardware when what I have works perfectly well. 2. It seems clear that backward compatibility is not on. So all those bits and pieces in the way of addons that we have spent a lot of cash on over time cannot be used. What the are offering by way of aircraft does nothing for me at all I am not interested in modern jets or modern piston engined GA aircraft. Given that we have already lost a significant number of enthusiastic and very competent modellers when we went from MS2004 to FSX, the shake out this time I expect will be even more severe. Who is going to turn around and spend years redoing or starting from scratch on a new model of what you had already done which works very well in FSX for this new system. 3. I am an inveterate tinkerer with FSX but I can do this, create scenery, adjust and modify models, repaint them etc in a way that is satisfying to me but gives me the sim experience I want, which is historically focused and allows me to recreate via the sim the history of flight. All the major developers of payware are silent on the subject some have begun to do X Plane versions instead which is telling. (Carenado, PMDG). I have a hangar full of some wonderfully recreated old aircraft and quite frankly with FSX well tuned and the O/S properly managed I have no issues and I guess that is where it will stay for the time being. I see nothing from DTG about the new system that gets me excited enough to abandon FSX or not to consider P3D or X-Plane instead and I think that is going to be DTG's major problem, they did not think about the sim community properly, the shareware and teamwork on lots of fronts, that is priceless.
Rupert Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 A lot of what I think is similar to what 727 just said. However, I will take a good look before I lock down where I am. I'm doing well with a 4.5Ghz chip and DDR4 RAM. But the slow downs near places like Heathrow aren't thrilling. Considering all the scenery investments I've made, I might become a switch hitter. Michael Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
