Fsuipc

FSUIPC can't connect your joystick, it can only detect your joystick so you can then calibrate it and assign functions to the buttons in FSUIPC as shown in the instructions. Your joystick must be recognised by your system first, either through generic Windows drivers or the drivers supplied on disk with the joystick. If you're going to use FSUIPC to calibrate it, you probably won't need the Utility which was supplied on disk for your joystick, just the drivers if Windows can't find it's own.

I have got it to recognise my joy stick, but calibrating and setting it up baffles me. I cannot seem to calibrate the throttle either through windows or FSUIPC it will not go below 50% subsequently when I release the brakes I go hurtling down the runway, and forget taxiing

Forget about FSUIPC for now, you need to get the throttle calibrated in Windows first. There's a very good guide with screenshots here:

I have a Logitech 3D Pro as shown in these screenshots and my calibration screen looks different to the one shown, but the principle is the same.
