warrantychap1
Hello, I own Microsoft flight simulator X and have it installed on my old laptop. I have the discs and code etc. I have just purchased a new laptop which doesn't have a disc drive. Is there any way I can get the software onto my new laptop or do I have to buy a new download? Thanks
mrzippy
You can probably buy an inexpensive USB disc drive to plug in and load your FSX discs onto your computer. Or you can purchase FSX-SE and download it to your new computer. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
napamule2
If you still have your old laptop you COPY the FSX Discs to the old laptop hard drive. Make and name the folders first. One called 'FSX' and one called 'Acceleration'. Drag the FSX folder from DVD to the FSX FILES folder. Do the same with Acceleration. Then you COPY the 'FSX Files' folder over by hooking the 2 laptops with a USB cable. The new laptop will 'see' the old laptop as a hard drive (ie: 'device'). Drag ('COPY') the 'FSX Files' folder and drop in the new laptop hard drive. Then run the FSX 'setup'. Go from there. Might work - haven't tried it myself. Of course Zippy's suggestion is the RIGHT ANSWER. You are going to need a CD/DVD optical device anyway. External Disk Drives go for as low as $20. StringBean
Then you COPY the 'FSX Files' folder over by hooking the 2 laptops with a USB cable. Or use a local network. Are you sitting behind a WiFi firewall? External Disk Drives go for as low as $20. Unless you have other needs for the external drive you might consider switching to FSX Steam edition. Might save you a couple bucks if you find it on sale and is certainly a greener choice than buying a piece of hardware that wil mostly collect dust. peace, the Bean WWOD---What Would Opa Do?
