BONDENO
Can you change the Aircraft CFG file in the default 737-400 to handle better and be more realistic, also to capture a ILS better and be more stable.
PhantomTweak
Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: If you're going to do these things, make absolutely certain you start by making a back-up of the aircraft.cfg and .air files, and stash them in a safe place. Same for any of the files you might want to edit. Panel.cfg, sound.cfg, etc. This way, if something goes pear-shaped, you can restore them and start again. To do what you want to do will involve making changes to the aircraft.cfg and .air files. Numerous sections of both. For tracking the ILS, you need to make changes to the [autopilot] section of the aircraft.cfg. Be careful. It's a PID controller setup, and those can be tricky. For making it fly "more realisticaly", well THAT is going to take making changes to many sections as I mentioned before, depending on just what you to make more realistic, or "better". jgf
...start by making a back-up of the aircraft.cfg and .air files, and stash them in a safe place. ... My system for this, in many applications, is merely right-click on the file and select "add to zip", you will now have "aircraft.cfg" and "aircraft.zip" in the same folder. To restore the original just right-click the zip and select "extract here". To the OP - there are "corrected" cfg files for many, if not all, of the default aircraft in FS9 available online; possibly in the libraries here (I haven't checked). How "correct" these are I've no idea; but they claim to correct AP issues, taxi issues, performance inaccuracies, etc.
PhantomTweak
The .zip file rick is a good idea! Never thought of it. Thanks for a great idea :) I usually rclick a file, click Copy, then rclick on an open area in the folder and click paste. Instant copy. Aircraft-COPY.cfg is the result. Then, if I need to restore it, I delete the one I've totally messed up, and just rename the copy back to aircraft.cfg. That's just the way I do it though. Nothing at all wrong with the .zip idea, however. I'm gonna try that next time.
