Various aircraft won't start manually, Ctrl-E works okay

First, I've been involved with FS since the first one, and every one since. This problem has only appeared recently.

I can start the large jets manually, not problem, the Cessna and Baron, no problem, even the Kingair, DC-3 and the DHC-4.

I even had an issue with the AN-2, but remedied that with increasing starter torque. Having said that, I suddenly have issue with the Sect 8 F-86 will spin and never fire. Lately, I just downloaded Dino's wonderful T-45 to get back into "Carrier Ops" (that thread is what got be going last week on this new adventure) and the starter hangs at 22%. Ignition is on, fuel flow and cracked throttle. No joy. I Googled the Maule issue and tried those suggestions, and found by using the mouse wheel, I could start the engine but I never had those issues until lately. All my starts are at low field level (KLGB). The T-45 Goshawk engine will spin, but not fire unless I use CTRL-E. If anyone has any ideas, I'm open. I'm either not doing something smart or am doing something stupid. Thank you in advance.. Terry

After reading about the starting issues with the Super Tacano, Phantom Tweak had my answer. Seems even though the vc controls indicated that the fuel valve was on (tool tip reflected valve open) it was not on in relation to the sim program. I used Ctrl-Shift F4 and the Goshawk started right up. I'm posting this for future reference. Thanks to all that responded to the super tac problem. It solved mine as well.

Do you have a "cold-n-dark" flight saved off as your default? If so, do you have the mixture off, the magnetos off? The generator or inverters off? Any of those things can have the effect you're describing. Try making your default flight one of the default planes sitting and running, like the "normal" is for FSX, as well as FS9.

Either delete the text after the "=" in the line SITUATION=FLIGHTS\OTHER\FLTSIM in the [uSERINTERFACE] section of the FSX.cfg file, or go to Free Flight, choose a plane like the C-172 or Beech58 that come with FSX, and select Fly Now. Then, just sitting there idling on the runway of your choice, save the flight off as the default.

Restart FSX, and go to your default flight, then switch over to the plane you want, shut it down according to it's procedures, then try to start it up again and see what happens.

If it works correctly, we can start eliminating what the troubles might be with your cold-n-dark set up.

Hope that helps a little...

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

Yes. PT, I am starting with cold and dark. but I amended my post that I found the problem to be the fuel valve was not opening when, in fact, viewing in the vc the valve mouse over indicated it to be "on" when in actually in regards to the sim, it was not. Instead of clicking on the clickable valve in the vc during start, I used Shift-Ctrl_F4 and Waahl-Laaahh, light off, and turbine spun up. It appears that the sim recognizes the valve off condition, but does not recognize the valve on. Your suggestion ensures the sim recognizes the fuel valve open. Thank you for pointing that out to the OP of the Super Tac start problem. I read it and thought I would try it.. it worked like a champ...Thank you.

Glad you got it squared away :)

I don't know the ins-n-out of the sim like some, but I have found some "tricks" that seem to work for some problems.

Have fun, and good flights to you!
