Bleeding fps

Last night I was running my Carendo phenom 300 and was getting 25 to 35 GPS, today it bleeds all the way down to 0.5 fps. What happened? My default aircraft are running at 50 to 60 fps. I didn't change anything. I'm running Fsx on Windows 10. System specs are;

Intel Core i7 quad core @2.5 GHz.

12 gig memory

Intel HD graphics 520, Nvidia GeForce 940MX

1 terabytes hard drive

I installed to C:\\ FSX and had UAC and defender turned off during FSX and add on installation

Its a new computer and it did update once and I rolled it back and stopped any further updates. I was flying again last night and decided to try my phenom again and it ran fine. It seem to be that after my sim has been running for a while it settles out and my frame rate stabilize. Have you seen or read anything like this before?

UAC and Defender are NOT the problem and they will NOT be involved during add on installations. Is this '2.5 Ghz' CPU in a desktop or a laptop? The biggest hit will be how high you have your sliders for Scenery (auto gen, etc). Next will be clouds. Next will be what you have running in the background. Sounds like something in background is 'calling home' and taking up your power (Ram and CPU cycles) while it 'updates' itself.

I have those around midst. It's a 2.5 - 2.9 GHZ laptop. I have it dedicated to nothing but flight. I have been flight simming since FSX 98. I still have it in the box by the way, but I've never encountered anything like this.

Yeah, I got the one drive disabled, I will get Cortina disabled. I've been working on getting it cleaned up. I was suspicious that it may be Win 10 crap in the background robbing me blind. I'm using System mechanic to help with this process. I will post update tomorrow. May need more help. Thanks

Why turn off updates? Did that one update cause problems? It's safest to just stop driver updates but allow essential/security updates - see http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/15989-device-driver-automatic-installation-turn-off-windows-10-a.html. Stopping all updates potentially leaves you vulnerable to hacking. Remember that each major update (like the Anniversary Update) requires all previous essential updates to be installed before it will install.

To follow up what Chuck said, do you have any antivirus or anti-malware software installed? They could be running scans in the background whilst FSX is running. Next time you see a slowdown, keep FSX running with a flight loaded and open Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) and look under the Processes tab. If you click on the top of the CPU column (where the percentage is shown) until the little arrow/v points down, it will show you what, in addition to FSX, is using up CPU cycles which is the most likely cause of FPS drops.

I just stopped them while troubleshooting this problem. I'm not real familiar with win 10. I've used win 7 up till now. So I just need to disable the driver updates?

I do have Norton. I had it suspended as well at one point while this happened. I was isolated from the Internet and have been on this system while trying to resolve the issue.

I have been using task manager but I'm not absolutely sure which processes and services are essential for win 10

Slowdown can be caused by Usb device with problem. Check lights on printer for error. Could be any Usb device. Unplug all. Then plug in the ones you need for fsx. Test.

If fixed plug in others one at a time, testing after each.

Cause could also be damaged Usb cable.
