azzaro
Another installment of the Helos at Home series. This time I fly a British Police 'copter out of Inverness airport. Off to investigate reports of trouble on one of the off shore oil rigs... Well, the only trouble I found was FSX's ridiculously large collision boxes! Upon inspection is slew mode I find the landing pad was not hardened anyhow. So, an all around futile attempt to do my job! FSX giveth, and FSX taketh away. — Bob [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7-7700 3.6GHz / GTX1660 6GB / 32GB RAM / 49" Samsung CHG90 / WIN10

PhantomTweak
Most, not all but most, add-on oil rigs have hardened helipads. There are also ways to harden the helipad of an existing oil rig, building, airport, you name it. Having said all that, very nice set of pics! Thank you for an enjoyable post. Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again! NMLW
Despite the lack of hardened landing platforms these are some very nice pics. of your Copper Chopper Bob.  :) Larry
flyer8
Really nice layering, great shots, especially the platform detail. What are you using for your controls, joy stick wise. Think I want to try a chopper now! Mark

PhantomTweak
What are you using for your controls, joy stick wise. Think I want to try a chopper now! I use the same joystick I use for all my planes. Thrustmaster. Works great. One trick with chopper's control I've found, especially yaw, is to turn the sensitivity down a ways. I keep my nullzones all way way down (1%), but adjust the sensitivities on a per-chopper basis. Just me, though. Some great freeware helicopters over at Hovercontrol. A dandy little bit of software called Helicopter Total Realism, also. I know our real-life helicopters pilots say the sim is no good as far a heli's go, but for those of us who never had a chance to do more than sit in the back, it's as close as we can get. No seat-of-the-pants feel, granted. Other than that though... Anyway, no matter what, have fun! Think I want to try a chopper now!Mark Thanks for your kind comments Mark. I use a Saitek X52. I had a great deal of trouble flying helos until I got a computer that can manage 30 frames under most conditions. Pat's comments about sensitivities and nullzones are also very helpful. Helos take a light touch on the stick and throttle. Without the seat-of-the-pants component visual cues are doubly important. — Bob [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7-7700 3.6GHz / GTX1660 6GB / 32GB RAM / 49" Samsung CHG90 / WIN10
