Johnny Boy the Pilot
Alejandro Rojas Lucena makes beautiful payware quality aircraft for FSX that I wish I could fly. But I can't because EVERY aircraft I tried that was made by Alejandro Rojas Lucena wouldn't work! Some of the models said they require SP1/SP2 but the ones that should work on standard FSX won't work on my FSX. The model flies, all the guages work, sounds work fine, but the textures, models, animations are trasnsparent, black or dont show up. 4 Aircraft I really hoped would work were the Cessna 310Q, Beech P35 Bonanza, Cessna Citation, and the MD-80, but they all have the same problem: Textures/Models are transparent, black or dont even show.:( Any help would be great!
mrzippy
Give some links or file names for the download(s) of these aircraft. Are you using FSX without the SPs or Acceleration installed? That would be a problem! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
Johnny Boy the Pilot
Yes I'm using FSX without SP1/SP2 but some of the Alejandro Rojas Lucena aircraft say they don't require SP1/SP2. I would like to install SP1/SP2 but it seems like a huge pain and I don't want to screw up something and not only lose my FSX but it will take HOURS to replace all the addons I added. Johnny Boy the Pilot
I also don't know exactly how to install SP1/SP2. And yes I know SP1/SP2 is also free.
mrzippy
I also don't know exactly how to install SP1/SP2. And yes I know SP1/SP2 is also free. After downloading both you just run the .exe for SP1 and it installs itself. Start up your Sim and try it to be sure all is well, then shut it down and run the.exe for SP2. Done You will find that most 3rd party aircraft will require at least SP1 and SP2 to be installed before they will work correctly. Ya takes yer chances without them! Johnny Boy the Pilot
So even though I have countless addons (aircraft, scenery, missions, etc.) if I install SP1 to my default FSX will it affect my addons or mess up my sim? It will all depend on how much you want these new aircraft. From my understanding, it's far better and easier to install the SPs (both of them) when you have a fresh install of FSX. Didn't we go through this a month or so ago? It was either you or another fellow that could get SP1 but not SP2 installed. I guess it was dewy10 that had that problem! Johnny Boy the Pilot
We did have this similar talk with my Rob Richardson Cessna 310B and 310Q texture issue which I need SP1 for the textures to fully work on that too. I dont mind having SP2 but I really would like SP1 at least since you need SP1 to go on VATsim. I recently found my 2 old FSX discs so I can now repair or re-install my FSX but my FSX has no issues right now. My FSX on my PC is currently about 10 years old (My dad bought and installed FSX in 2007 after it came out).

This is what you will see when you double-click the SP1 ICON. Just hit RUN! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
Johnny Boy the Pilot
This weekend (very busy with school this week) I'll spend a couple of hours uninstalling my addons and moving them to another part of my PC and once I remove all addons Ill try to install SP1 and SP2. Johnny Boy the Pilot
or I'll just "grit my teeth" and go straight for the installation of SP1 and hope nothing breaks.

napamule2
You also need to change the thread topic. When you say a modeler's ac 'Don't Work' it means it won't FLY right, crashes your Sim, etc. You trying to use (dds) textures with vanilla FSX is the problem. You can't blame Lucena for that. You could learn to convert *.dds textures to *.bmp so you can use the paints. DXTBMP program (free, Google it) is what they use. But in the end it's your choice what to do. Maybe email Lucena to register your complaint? (Just being sarcastic..don't do that). As I said before, the aircraft, flight model, gauges, all work except the textures. SO since I already have DXTBMP, I'll try to convert the textures from DDS to BMP when I finish my schoolwork for today. I guess I can live without FSX Multiplayer but at least I want to be flying great aircraft and Lucena's aircraft are just BEAUTIFULLY done. I hope this DDS to BMP conversion works cause I think my Rob Richardson 310 has the same problem so it might fix it to. Thanks guys! I'll let you guys know how it works out.:)
napamule2
There are advantages to re-installing FSX ('pristine' install) so you can install the Sp's. Your graphics will be better, etc. A little work, but worth it. I don't have any payware aircraft to worry about (never had even 1!!!). Other than Fraps, WinZip, Sony Vegas programs I have more than enough Free QUALITY models. Makes life simpler. Cheers. Chuck B Napamule Edit: It's funny: people brag about all the payware they have...I brag about not having any payware. Somebody has their head on backwards...is it me? kingnorris
SP1 fixed many issues FSX had, like dawn/dusk lighting not working in scenery, for example. It's almost a necessity to have both SP's installed BEFORE any addons are. Chuck B Napamule I used the Beechcraft P35 Bonanza for example: (Download link: http://simviation.com//fsnd/Beech_P35.zip?ID=4027) The following textures I converted DDS to 24 bit BMP image: GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome p35_1_C p35_1_T p35_1_T_spec panel pilot_c prop ______ I cant convert fresnel_ramp to BMP because it says Access violation. I converted ALL the textures using DXTBMP texture tool for FSX. After I converted all DDS textures that I could convert to BMP, I went to FSX, look at the Bonanza, and its no invisible anymore but its black.
Johnny Boy the Pilot
:D:D:D OMG I GOT THE TEXTURES TO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D (Sorry for freak out lol) Ok so what I did is I opened the Bonanza textures in DXTBMP and converted them to BMP. Then I converted BMP back to DDS and the textures show up!!!!!!! :D I applied this method to my Rob Richardson 310B and it fixed the transparent issues on that as well! Im so freakin hyped and happy right now!!! :D I need to make a video showing this method incase people have the same issue as me. :D :pilot:

pvarn
Vatsim is a roaring fun reason to get with the Service Packs. They include bug fixes and increase performance. They also let you fly direct connect with other pilots. While I applaud your effort and the value of learning a new skill, you are really putting off something you will do eventually and as time goes on, it gets harder for you to make the move. Re-installing your add-ons will be the biggest thing you have to do, but you have done it already and you have the installers, so you'll already know what to do and will do it faster. -Pv- 2 carrot salad, 10.41 liter bucket, electric doorbell, 17 inch fan, 12X14, 85 Dbm

Thats the only reason I haven't installed SP1 because it will take HOURS to uninstall/move ALL my freeware from FSX (to another temporary part of my PC) and it will take another couple of hours re-installing it back into it. And I'm constantly busy with school so I have to do this over a weekend if I choose to do it. But yes I really would love to fly with other pilots on VATsim since I'm a hardcore realistic FSX pilot. My home FSX Airport is KAWO (Arlington Municipal Airport).
Johnny Boy the Pilot
Another thing I perfected most of the issues on my FSX and the only thing I could ask for was Multiplayer. I don't mind having acceleration (I found a couple of great freeware fighter jet substitutes for the Acceleration F/A-18C) but I do want multiplayer. I only flew on FSX multiplayer ONCE and that was the only time I ever flew with other pilots. This was only a few days before GameSpy closed down. :( I really wish I knew about this free SP1/SP2 installation before loading my FSX with freeware. :(
