So i have about 100 hours on FSX:SE and have been using Halifax intl. forever, but for some reason out of nowhere when i get clearance to take off and taxi i taxi and hold position but when i try to get clearance there are no options to get clearance from the tower it just says the following(may not be the actual frequencies but whatever) :

1(Tune Halifax Ground on 121.9)

2(Tune Halifax ATIS on 121.3)

It should be this:

1(Tune Halifax ground on 121.9)

2(Tune Halifax ATIS on 121.3)

3 Request Takeoff clearance

:mad: It only does it on this airport i notice, THIS IS MY FAVOURITE Airport, but know i cant use it please help

Have you taxied up far enough into the Hold short position? With the ATC window displayed it take off clearance, Clarence should appear. I'll give Halifax a test run.

Sounds like you:

asked ground to taxi to rw,

then tuned tower,

then taxied,

missed a call from ground to hold for traffic,

taxied on to rw,

ground cancelled atc,

-->no clearance.

To see, tune ground. If they offer taxi for takeoff, fuel, parking, then atc has been cancelled.

Or you didn't taxi close enough to the hold short line of the rw.

Switch on progressive taxi, if there are yellow arrows follow them all the way till none are left showing.

Or you taxied to the wrong rw all together.

Progressive taxi again.

Taxied to runway 24 while listening to Ground on Comm1 and had Tower tuned on Comm2 so I could listen in on the takeoff request from the AI aircraft in front of me. I then pulled up to the Hold Short line and here is a screenshot of my ATC Box after the tune Tower click. You either did not file an IFR flight plan or like il88pp said, you missed responding to a call.

To me it looks as if you didn't file an IFR flightplan.

Nothing to clear yet, so the only option is to contact tower for taxi request.

I know of no reason to file IFR (or VFR flight plan, for that matter) to get a takeoff clearance. But I can see where that option might fail to show if you're not on tower freq (unicom maybe?) or not in a reasonable departure area. Or have they changed SE so much that things work differently?

Read OP please, and the OP's question.

All he needs to, and can do is contact ground for taxi permission at that stage.

A permission which he will get.

But he'll only get the 3rd option (again from OP) at that stage with an IFR flight plan filed.

Tried all of these things but when I get filed to takeoff from runway 06 it works. But Everytime from runway 24 it still does it but I guess I will just have to try to get runway 06 ant every flight, thanks everybody for your quick replies

Hi, I am not sure that I understand the sequence that you are running. When do you ask for which clearance exactly?

The correct one is:

1. When at the gate, listen to ATIS

2. Then request IFR clearance for your flightplan

3. Then start your engines (you are not allowed to do that before you have route clearance from ATC) and ask for taxi

4. Mind the ground controller comm, don't miss them

5. When you are nearing the runway, ground will tell you to contact the tower

6. Ask Tower for takeoff clearance.

That is assuming that all frequencies are set up corretly at that airport. Sometimes they are mixed up. And sometimes the holding points at the runways are "off" - is that the default airport or an addon of some kind? Different "AFCAD"?

Are you by chance taking off from runway 24?

If so, where are you "holding short"?

Also, if so, try another runway.

Dunno if it's the case here, but I remember from my early simming days I always misinterpreted the "Taxi into position and hold"-instruction. Taxied to the hold short line, and waited... waited... Never got take-off clearance eather.

Wasn't until I installed EVP, where they'd changed the instruction to "Line up and wait", that I understood I had to taxi unto the runway to get take-off clearance.

Interesting comment, Wim! In post#5 I was told by Tower to hold short..aircraft on runway 24 is taking off. I then got permission to taxi into position and hold. Takeoff permission came after the aircraft in front rotated and was switched over to departure.

I also use EVP and I can see the where if you are in the wrong spot, no takeoff permission is coming forth.

Wow, somehow I missed about half of these posts when I first read this thread and responded.

The issue with runway 24 is where you hold short.

If you hold at the line before runway 15 you will not get takeoff clearance, Clarence.

You have to taxi onto 15 as shown here...

At that point you will get thte option to ask for takeoff clearance.

I agree. Sometimes ATC will tell you to taxi to whatever runway is the current duty runway by taxiing on a runway not currently in use as the duty. If that is the case, you should consider the non-duty runway as a taxiway. EXCEPT, and this fooled me before I figured it out. The automated taxi arrows stop at the entrance to any runway, including the one you are told to taxi on.If you don't continue onto the instructed taxi runway and continue to taxi to the edge of the in use duty and stop there, your in plane radio options won't include the ability to tune the tower and request takeoff.

(Sorry, that isn't my best description of the actions needed. But it's as good as I can think of.)

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
