jandjfrench Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Hi, I have a couple of problems which probably have been solved previously. I haven't been able to start the Cub without resorting to autostart initially. Once started a restart works fine until FSX is restarted. Anyone have the solution? Everything works fine with the Ford Tri-motor except that the sound associated with the right engine starting plays continuously until the engine is started. This is unique to FSX. Sometimes the sound is heard in the cabin and other times in an external view. I don't recall if the problem exists after a shutdown but that's not my concern. I'm not looking for things to try but solutions to the problems. Thanks. Jim F.
mrzippy Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 For the Piper Cub, all I did was set my throttle a little less than 1/4 and clicked the start switch. The engine turned over and started right up! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
jandjfrench Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 Hi zippy, I should have stated that my default flight was with the engine shutdown. It seems that once an engine's running in FSX that is somehow saved when another aircraft is selected. I tried a bunch of stuff and was hoping someone had run into this before and knew the solution. One of those "Oh yeah, I know how to fix that!" things. Jim

My default flight is cold and dark, so any time I select an aircraft it is in that scenario. Your second sentence has me baffled a bit. I agree that if you start aircraft "A" and the engines are running, if you now switch over to new aircraft "B", those engines should be running also. That's normal. Switching between aircraft without restarting the Sim should put the new aircraft in the same situation as the previous aircraft. Now I'm starting to ramble like Pat! I will now bow out to see if anyone says "Yeah, I know how to fix that!" Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
jandjfrench Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 Hey zippy, I kind of anticipated that this was one of those problems that only shows up under very specific circumstances. Thanks for checking. Jim F.
PhantomTweak Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Yeah, I DO tend to ramble. Sorry about that. Ask me the time, I tell ya how to build a watch. Bad habit. I'd rather give too much info than not enough, though. By the way, on your cold-n-dark startup flight, is the mixture in OFF, ie pressing F1? Until you either press F4 or turn the fuel on in some other way, another plane won't start. I don't know the Cub well enough to say if it has a fuel shut off sort of switch, or just uses the Mixture knob for that function, but you might want to be sure you press F4 before trying to start it, just to be on the safe side. Just a thought. I get them so rarely... Same with the magnetos. Is there a way to make sure they are on before you try to start the Cub? Shutting up now... Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!
