Adamk99
Hello there guys, Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for being so welcoming on this forum, and so helpful. My latest question is regarding payware airports in and around Europe, and which you rate. I have decided to keep my costs lower to have a substantial chunk of my payware airports in Europe. I already have UK 2000's Gatwick and Newcastle (home town) and was blown away by the attention to detail and quality, articularly with the metro system included at EGNT, which I have to travel on regularly, and the detailed Metro terminus at the airport. I also have Aerosoft's Mallorca X, Thessaloniki, Heraklion and La Palma, and I'm looking to expand. Most of the flights I fly are European charters, holiday airlines like Thomson, Thomas Cook, Condor etc, so "holiday" destinations are what I'm looking for. Aerosoft's Frankfurt is on the to buy list for Condor operations, but any others in and around Europe, and perhaps a few long haul destinations (when flown from the UK, Germany etc) for my CS 767 to show what it's made of would be extremely appreciated, and, of course, if there is anything you'd avoid. Thank you very much, Adam
cianpars
All of the Aerosoft and UK2000 airports are very good with great attention to detail and they all perform well in the sim. alverthein
I just purchased....Warsaw EPWA and Frankfurt EDDF and they are quite good I think...
evm
Have a look at FlyTampa, especially Dubai, Corfu and Athens. Dubai is a nice long haul from Europe. If you want to go even further, FlyTampa's St. Maarten is very good too. You might also like FSDreamTeam's Geneva and Zurich. Aerosoft Innsbruck, Madeira and Gibraltar are interesting and challenging destinations, albeit a bit dated. Lately I bought a few Italian sceneries from RfSceneryDesign and JetStream Designs, Catania, Palermo and Reggio Calabria and was surprised by the good quality. Flying around the Aetna is nice, especially at sunset (and a little ASN help) or when combined with photoreal textures. LICR has a nice approach too. Adamk99
Hi guys, thank you all very much for the suggestions, I had never even heard of flytampa and, despite having GSX, I didn't know that FSDreatTeam made airports! I took another look at Aerosoft and purchased Marsa Alam for a good mid-hauler for my QW 757 and now have got to get Fly Tampa's Corfu and I'm looking at Manchester from UK 2000, but may hold off as the website states a new version is due this year. Are there any good paywares for Antalya, Bodrum etc or Tenerife South, I can't find any that state they are compatible with FSX Steam Edition. Thank you all ever so much for your help, Adam
evm
Right, the Steam Edition. In that case be careful with older Aerosoft scenery. The scenery itself displays fine in FSX:SE but as Aerosoft often used their AES "light" product for moving objects (AI trains, buses, trucks, airport vehicles), these do not appear in SE. AES is incompatible with anything newer than FSX Acceleration. If that is an issue for you depends on personal taste. I use them anyway (in P3D), and having GSX I don't miss the ground traffic too much. But then again I already had them for a long time so there was nothing to think about really. Sometimes the Aerosoft boxes are sold 2nd hand on ebay etc. too.
Adamk99
That's food for thought actually... thank you! I had wondered where the issue lay on the Aerosoft website, given that there are some sceneries don't appear in the steam section. So if I were to buy, say, Gibraltar X, will directing the installer towards program files x86, steam, steam apps etc successfully install it, albeit minus the odd thing? Thank you for the ebay suggestion, why pay more!?
Rupert
Mega Airport Heathrow is great. But boy it'll sure slow things down with all the detail!!:eek: Someone mentioned Innsbruck. I don't have a payware airport for there. However I heartily recommend you fly there from anywhere you choose for a IFR approach! Try it under selected IFR conditions. First have the wind coming so you approach one direction then change the wind 180* and come at the other side. Both directions are great and IMO, challenging. ;) Rather than buy a bunch of payware airports I usually fly with ORBX software. They have great software for Wales, England, Ireland, and Scotland. With lots of great airports for a charter flyer! Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
Adamk99
Innsbruck is a fantastic suggestion, so to whoever suggested it, thank you! I'm going to see who makes the best! It is the epitome of winter charter, and a short hop from EGKK for instance, so easy if I'm time pushed. I think a Heathrow rendition of some sort is on the cards, since I'm soon getting a nice new solid state hard drive. I've seen ORBX on FSX videos on youtube and from the air it blew me away so it is definitely one I'm looking into. Thank you very much guys! andrewkif
Hey Adam, how about Aerosoft's Mega Airport Munich? It's really an excellent airport and personally my favorite! I myself enjoy flying using Condor, and there are plenty of Condor routes available in and out of EDDM - I actually ended up picking Aerosoft's Munich over Frankfurt because its installation size was less than half of Frankfurt's. Just my two cents. :D Best, Andrew “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.†- Leonardo da Vinci :pilot:
Rupert
A couple of UK screenshots made with ORBX scenery. This is why I like ORBX so well. The first shot is London from the West. The 2nd is of the Dome and it's raining and misty. The thumbnail is Wales in the Fall. Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow. Adamk99
ORBX looks fantastic, it is a definite investment I'll make, I think. I've seen what it does to fields etc when viewed from altitude and I'm impressed. Munich is also an airport I'd looked into, and is something I will get but soon I'll be getting a new solid state hard drive so install size isn't as big an issue as it is now, and I've got my heart set on Aerosoft's Seychelles and, if we're being entirely accurate, Condor only fly there from Frankfurt ;) but Munich is definitely something to expand my Condor and Lufthansa, and other airlines, for that matter, operations with, especially if it's so good! andrewkif
I see, very cool! Anyways, wish you happy flying my friend. :pilot: “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.†- Leonardo da Vinci :pilot:

Again, please be careful. Unless there has been a new release (I don't think so) the Aerosoft Mega Airport Munich will not display the ground traffic in FSX:SE. And there is quite a lot of it, cars on the Autobahn, the local S-Bahn trains coming and going, the airport firefighter vehicles and numerous others. The scenery looks good (way better than the Taxi2Gate offering IMHO), but it feels dead without all that movement. About installation of the old sceneries: even if the installer would ignore the FSX:SE path and use the old FSX default, you can either move the scenery files or reference them in the scenery library manually. If everything else fails, you can always manipulate the registry keys, so that the installer thinks that it is copying to the FSX boxed version. This can be done easily by hand or with the F1 registry fixer tool.
Adamk99
Damn, for some reason I thought I had see Munich in the steam section on aerosoft's website, but I guess not. Frankfurt, however is so I will be getting that :) On the subject of Munich , if anyone from this forum was caught up in the attacks, you are in my thoughts. aerosim31
UUEE Moscow Sheremetyevo from Drzewiecki Design, very nice airport. Do a few flights around Russia, also recently purchased Moscow City . Highly recommend their sceneries.
