Stop military jets appearing at commercial gates?

Any ideas (at airports which have a military base attached)? I could edit the traffic bgl file in TrafficTools, but then all military aircraft would disappear from the military parts of the airport as well (though that's probably better than having little jet fighters parked at commercial jetways!). Changing the gate assignments in the AFCAD makes no difference..

Suggestions welcome.. thanks.

Hi - thanks, but there are already plenty of military gates at the airport, marked ramp mil combat. This must be 'overspill'. To be honest I haven't spent the time as yet finding out what the fighter aircraft are at the gates (they are all the same) and so am not sure which aircraft.cfg file is relevant. I can do that at some stage, no problem, but for now, knowing which traffic bgl file is creating the planes, I edited the file using TrafficTools, to exclude military flight plans at the airport. That means no military jets there at all (your suggestion would be better, I agree) now - but as I hardly ever fly the military side, only IFR and some VFR, that's not really a problem.

When I get the time I may try to locate the aircraft.cfg file and try again that way, but I have often found that changing the parking designation in the cfg file does not have the required effect in the sim - and for now I have all commercial aviation at the passenger gates, so that's the main thing!

Make sure the fighter spots at the airport afcad are ramp mil combat.

Make sure the aircraft.cfg entry (for parking) for the fighters are :

atc_parking_types=MIL_COMBAT

That should sort you out.

Yes that's true but afcad does it even easier

Thanks for the replies. I have the traffic slider at 50% - less than that, then traffic is pretty thin at medium or smaller sized airports.

I can have another look at tweaking the AFCAD and/or traffic bgl files, when I get a moment. Meanwhile, just removing the airport (I replace the ICAO code with 'XXXX' as a quick solution) from the flight plan file and recompiling has of course worked.

The traffic slider in FS9 works in this way: every single flightplan line in a .bgl has a % number near the beginning. If the % number is equal to or less than where you position the slider then that aircraft will show in the sim. If it is higher, then it wont. Just moving the slider to say 50% does NOT mean you will get 50% of the traffic.

So you could edit that number in the military flightplans so it reads 99%. Then they will only show if you have the slider at 99 or 100%

Alternatively, editing the afcad for parking types and codes; and the aircraft.cfg files for parking types and codes will stop your military jets parking in the wrong place, as long as you have enough parking spaces for all the military jets.

No, I sometimes find myself assuming that, but I know that that is not how it works and that the % is in the files that TTools creates from the bgl. There can be a huge difference in what traffic appears at airports by changing from 95% to 99%, or from 99% to 100%.

I have edited other airports with this issue, by doing just what you say. Having enough military parking is key, as you say: I have had to add a lot of military parking spots at some airports in order to accommodate all the military aircraft that are scheduled to be there (and not have F18s or whatever at commercial jetways, which look rather absurd of course), but that's not too big a deal.

It does all take quite some time though, so if it's at an airport where I am not too worried whether military aircraft appear there or not, I just edit the flight plan file in the way I described before. It takes less than a minute...

In this case though, (Tehran, OIII) I might go back and try and do a better job, as military aircraft are quite a heavy presence at that airport of course.

Thanks again.

I have made sure the parking codes show as military in the aircraft.cfg and that the gates in the AFCAD are also military (cargo and combat). I created lots of extra military combat gates in the AFCAD as well, but none of this made any difference at all. For some reason the MIG21s all want to park at the commercial gates. This is by no means the first time that editing the cfg files and AFCADS like this has been to no avail..

So I have stuck to what I did before - edit the relevant traffic.bgl file to exclude military aircraft from the airport entirely. There comes a cut off point (and I have already spent a couple of hours, at least on this now), when enough is enough. As I have things now is just fine - as I say, I am not really all that worried whether I see military jet fighters and these airports or not. (The only time I am is, obviously, if I am flying a military aircraft myself in and out of a military air base).

Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
