Hi

I ve recently found out the amount of cpu usage that scvchost.exe is sucking from processor.

Is there a good way to stop those processes without getting my Pc unstable ?

One of the many svchost.exe is using almost 50% cpu !

Thanks !

That is an .exe that runs many system services. You can disable some services but you are not going to eliminate svchost.exe.

The thing is that its a bit difficult to figure out whats necessary to keep PC running.

But tonight ill post a list of the services related to it :)

Hi lefu,

As Luke said it's most likely a problem with Windows update. I had the problem but somehow it's been fixed. In order to live with it I was stopping the Windows Update service. As you've identified that svchost.exe is the culprit, right click on it and then select "Go to services" and you'll find one that starts with "wu" in the list. Stop it and that will stop the high CPU usage at least temporarily.

I'm not sure but this may be how I fixed the problem. I downloaded the free version of Advanced Systemcare. As part of a system "Scan" in the Security part it seems to have identified and downloaded some Windows updates by a different route than the standard update. I don't know if this was how the problem was fixed or just a coincidence related to some other things I was trying.

A word of caution here: the latest version of Advanced Systemcare has it's own anti-virus program. I installed Advanced Systemcare on another computer and I wasn't able to disable it for one month. I prefer the MS anti-virus.

Yep.

That was an issue that i had many weeks (more than a month) with

windows 10 update, all of a sudden when i went back to my PC after been open for hours windows 10 installed its self without permission.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/mar/15/windows-10-automatically-installs-without-permission-complain-users

The next day i downloaded

https://www.grc.com/never10.htm

it just block any update that has to do with win10 installation

so any time i go to windows update it wont work because most of those files are blocked by "never10"

I will disable it to night and we' ll see...

I guess ill just disable windows update for a while.

So finally i disabled windows updates, svchost is still there

around 40% of CPU usage, i just click delete and it closes.

decreasing CPU usage to around 60% while FSX is running (plane on the air)

Fsx is working a lot better. i was able to increase pretty much all of the sliders.

(Just a comment) It's real pain. I do not shut my CPU anymore if I use the FSX many time on the week, if I shut the CPU the scvchost will use up to 2G of memory for at least 5 minutes looking for windows update or virus update etc, then after the mem will go down and I do not have any more skip f/s running the fsx (I do not have 8G) I have a Vista 64 with 4G and Nvidia 2g card
