two payware DC-9 products...

1. Sky Simulations DC-9

2. Ultimate Airliners DC-9 - more expensive and I assume is a much better-done software (systems/visuals), correct? And thus we are questioned with a new iFly 747 software, is it expectedly waaaay better than the old PMDG software in terms of features, visuals and "fps" performance?

Airbus X happened to be very good FSX performer and I'd like to believe it is a systematic approach to design, with performance being accounted for.

But then, the CaptainSim 737-200 is a so-so (not too good) performer even compared to the more complex Captain 727, so go figure...

I just tried Airbus X, whatta leap forward it is... amazing. I assume so is FeelThere's new CRJ? Every newer (more recent) software is a huge step forward, no matter what aircraft it is.

NOT always. There's quite some payware around which doesn't stand up against some freeware.

But in this case I agree. The Flight1/Coolsky DC-9 looks quite a bit better than the Skysim one (which I have btw). At least on videos/pics. I might buy it as well.

Never expect the Airbus' system complexity on either of the DC-9 sims. The DC-9 is a 60s/70s aircraft. Analog instruments etc...

Don't agree on the Captain Sim comparison. BOTH the 732 and the 721 are IMO quite basic as it comes to system simulation. But I have them both, and I fly them both a lot.

Thank you for your thoughts/commentary.

What I assumed brings down the fps performance is not only the complexity of system programming, but also the complexity of visual virtual cockpit design, it is pretty detailed these days compared to 4-6 years ago. Programming-wise, PMDG and alike have a lot of programming gone in its modern-airplane simulations (FMS, Weather, this and that...) and thus it is very heavy on the computer (heavier than classic airplanes with engineer's panel like the CS Tristar lets say).

please expend on the good freeware available. I'm back from a 4-6 years break, it was easy enough for me to go to simmarket and see what new great software is there (I also got emails), but searching thru a million-file database in the FS.com library is something else. What nice freeware is there? Any field, GA, Business, Scenery, Utilities...

Seeing FT on your avator I have a FT question:

2 new products (new to me) 737-3/4/5 Evolution and Airbus Evolution.

I tried to evaluate the difference between original releases and "Evolutions", indeed a 737 is like a whole new product. I wasn't however able to see any major differences in Airbus Evolution software (apart from minor stuff). How is Airbus Evolution different from original release?
