Freeware Early Era Jetliner

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I am looking for a realistic freeware model of an early era jetliner like the DeHaviland Comet, Boeing 707, DC-8, etc. Of course I appreciate detailed outer textures, but I'm mainly interested in a cockpit that is as realistic as possible and offers many features.

I know there are quite many models of that era out there, but it's hard to know which are good without testing them all. So I would be very thankful for your advice or recommendations.

Cheers!

P.S. If there is a really striking Payware model, I might have a look at it as well, but I'd prefer not to spend money until I got in closer touch with this type of planes.

about the P.S.: I like the CaptainSim 707. Didn't find any freeware that could match it, but that may just be me. One thing to note is that the INS panel is non-functional. But you can drop the freeware CIVA INS 2D panel in there, makes for some interesting flying. There is a free VSpeed gauge too, to help with performance calculations.

The aircraft at HJG (Historic Jetliners Group) are some of the best freeware out there. Most importantly, they have GREAT flight models.

Most have custom sounds and detailed systems and panels. The only negative is that none of them have VCs, which is a deal-breaker for many people. I generally prefer 2D panels, so that is not a problem for me.

And on the list of striking payware, I add the CoolSky DC-9. Top-shelf in every way, as good as anything else out there. The Captain Sim 727 is fantastic as well.

Also, look at Dave Maltby's British airliners at DMflightsim. They are FS2004 portovers, so they look a little dated, but they are outstanding freeware and really fun to fly! I love the Trident 3 in particular. I flew as a passenger on the Trident a few times when I was a child, on the Shuttle between Glasgow, Scotland and London, England.

Thanks for your answers, I already had a look at the HJG and at Dave Maltby's airliners and both really like them. A VC is nice to look at, but as I'm usually flying with the 2D panels not to have one is no great issue. At first I was quite confused by the websites' puzzle approach as you have to download every plane component seperately, but the planes are working fine.

Well thanks again for your help!

Cheers!
