Now that's a big Butte hole!

Recommended Posts

Butte Montana, that is. Starting out from Bowman (3U3). The weather looks fine as I turn east over the Anaconda mine. Note the old smokestack in picture 4 (top right). The weather begins to go south as I head east. Flying over Butte the vast Berkley Pit Copper Mine is as big as the whole town. From Butte I continue to Three Forks (9S5). The landing is shown in the next post. No heroic Peerhoven landing, I'm afraid. Guess I let the Academy down. — Bob

"The landing is shown in the next post. No heroic Peerhoven landing,"

No, not even a Big Butte hole landing can be called a "heroic Peerhoven landing" when no passengers have to swim, or at least wade! And that's the hole truth.

Great pictures of the pit. Good to see scenery other than the default. I was born there so I fly into KBTM every year on my birthday.

Just did a three leg VFR flight from there myself. It's IMHO much more attractive from the air with ORBX Global than traversing in an automobile! In the car you just feel like you're in the hole and can't see out.

BTW: Exactly what scenery are you using? It does look great.

It's Orbx Central Rocky Mountains. Possibly with some help from Global & Vector, not sure.

Went through Butte back in 2008. The town is no Beaut but if you have any interest in geology or minerals, it's fascinating.

Of course, most people take geology for granite. — Bob

Thanks gents. It's always a pleasure making an ass of myself for your amusement. (I normally do it for NO reason) — Bob
