My First Bizjet

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Just a couple from last weekends flights... This is my first ever bizjet purchase and I'm having some fun with it... Not all days are picture perfect - a hazy late afternoon flight into KSEZ...

Working the GPS RWY 3 approach into KSEZ:

A bonus from the other flight I managed to get in - departing New Orleans (KNEW) while heading out over the Gulf enroute to Tampa... KNEW would be a great project airport for ORBX - landed there once and it makes for an incredible approach over the lake...

Is this your first transition to Jets, Scott? Great shots, by the way, what model is it that you are flying? I've not made the move yet, I have no idea how to fly a King Air, let alone a jet!

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much - sir...

Hi Klee,

While I'm most familiar with and spend the most time in props - in FS9 I flew Paul Golding's 727, Bob Scott's Tin Mouse 737, FeelThere ERJ, and the Coolsky MD-80... I tend to be more interested in older tin... I did fly the wings off the Digital Aviation Piper Cheyenne turbo-prop and now Digital Aviation seems poised to release a new CRJ which I plan on purchasing because the Cheyenne is an absolute favorite... Typically I can't handle flights much longer than a couple hours - so I tend to steer clear of BIG tin which the majority of the com-air folks tend to gravitate towards...

So - my machine can't really handle large class bravos - with high settings, heavy AI, and silky smooth frame rates in FSX/P3D - - - I've always like straight wing jets - so I'd figure I'd try this one... Now I'm probably one of Carenado's biggest critics - as it's so darn frustrating to see them repeatedly develop such beautiful models - then quit before insuring the systems and flight model match the quality of the model... That said - I'm pretty happy with this purchase - she is beautiful - she seems to fly well - the avionics are a bit wonky - and - the FMC is a total disappointment - however - the team over at AvSim did their typical GTN mod magic and it fixed many of the issues... Unfortunately you lose the FMC but it really is kind of weak anyway... With bizjets - especially the CJ with good short field performance - you can focus on the smaller fields which seem to be in favor with many developers today... I'm truly enjoying this one and I could recommend it as a starter if you have the GTN... Based on feedback it's probably Carenado's best jet to date...

Eaglesoft has a couple of new jets that seem to be getting close and MilViz has a Lear 60 in the works - I'm interested in these as well...

Scott

Hey Scott,

I hadn't flown out of KNEW for a while, seeing your shots I had to go. I agree 100% this would be an excellent area for ORBX to do! The ORBX Global is much better than default but it's still really bare compared to RW! The Lake bridge is awful! Maybe the worst I've seen done in a while.

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.

Hi Kenny,

Thanks a bunch ! Yeah - I've got to work on my screenshots - I'm usually focused on flying the plane properly - I seldom think to take shots - especially during the work load intensive phases of flight that would make the best pictures...

Hi Mike,

Right ?!? It is a VERY cool little airport and a nice reasonable hop (Turbo-Prop/Jet) from addon airport dense FL... I truly enjoy the Global Freeware airports - as they have just enough detail to make operations there a joy - I can't land at unimproved airports anymore - and - plan my flights off the ORBX maps... I had recently watched a video from this pilot on YouTube who's video's I like - young guy working out of KFLL who's always flying a Caravan or TBM visiting the Bahamas or Southeast USA... He made the flight in a TBM from KFLL to KNEW... The approach over Lake Pontchartrain was spectacular... His video gave me the idea...

For those unfamiliar - New Orleans Lakefront Airport (KNEW):

Hi Scott great pics, that re-shade is really a nice effect! I'm still trying to get it to work, lol. I can get some of the default effects to work but haven't figured out how to load the profile. I'll fiddle with it a bit more this evening, I guess I need the MasterEffect thingy installed.

Enjoying the CJ2 as well, now I'm spoiled with 400+ groundspeeds though so I don't wanna go back to the lowly piston twins, I guess I'll pass on the Chieftain and Shrike. Really looking forward to what Eaglesoft has up their sleeves! :)

Hi Jim,

Yeah - I'm pretty happy with some of the results I'm getting - sometimes I have to tweak my settings for a session because depending upon atmospherics - the bloom gets to be a bit much - easy enough to turn down/off... I've added another layer of complexity as the PIX above also include that RealShaderPack that's actively being discussed on AvSim,.. It really improved the ground textures... As I understand it Reshade is an addon shader while RealShaderPack is messing with the default shaders ??? I'm no expert though and they seem to play nicely together... If you need any info - please don't hesitate to ask...

Yeah - LOL - it is hard after the faster jet speeds... Most of my payware airports would take a long time to get between in a twin - while in jet it's just a hop... Just wait until I go back to my A2A SEL stuff - LOL - c'mon A2A Aerostar...

Hi Folks,

Oh - the frames are very good on the CJ2 525A as well - practically default - which is extremely important to me...

Scott

Hey Scott, If you're interested in good freeware jets you might want to consider the Honda Jet. Exceedingly fast, real small, well detailed & even comes with a copilot and passenger.;) And I haven't noticed a frame rate hit beyond default hardly at all!Honda Jet Parked.jpgcabinjpeg.jpg

Scott, awesome screenshots there! I'm still new to FSX (and working with more realistic virtual cockpits haha) so I haven't tackled any turbine aircraft as yet. I figure I'll cut my teeth on the default planes first ;). Perhaps when it gets easier, would you recommend the Citation? Cheers!

George

Oh, for the love!

Hi Peer,

Sorry it's not a prop - but I'm just trying this turbine thing out - my heart is still with props...

Hi Mike,

Wow - pretty nice for freeware - I'll definitely take a look... Hah - not bad for a Honda...

Hi George,

Yeah - I'd recommend it - with the caveat I mentioned previously - swapping out the FMC for the Flight1 GTN is a must - as I like flying real world procedures - and the included FMC just was wasn't doing it... It hand flies pretty well too...

Personally - I wouldn't mess with the default planes very much as they're not that good... If your wallet can afford it this is what I would recommend...

The absolute best Single Engine Land aircraft - A2A Simulations - all equally good - just pick your poison:

Skyhawk

Cherokee

Skylane

Comanche

My favorite light twin:

MilViz Cessna C310

While I don't have it yet - I would suspect the Real Air Duke is the best turbine...

While not everyone will agree - they are great aircraft and work a look...

Scott

Great looking jet Scott, I was thinking about that one myself until the Commander was released. :D I used to fly the heck of the out of the Eaglesoft CJ and Citation X, but right now I seen to have transitioned from singles to twins, can't get enough of them.

Great shots by the way!! :)

Hi Adam,

I actually tried the ES CJ prior to this - unfortunately - I've got that stutter issue that some people have reported since Win8 (I'm on Win10) - must be OS related - as the plane was truly unusable... I returned it via Flight1 - but since - had some subsequent conversations with ES and they gave it to me again to see if I can figure anything out - I've been messing with it on and off - no smoking gun yet... I'd really like to get it working as I believe the instruments/avionics are far more realistic...

Hah - as someone so eloquently mentioned on another post - we could all have the same products and take screenshots - but - yours consistently would be a notch above all the rest - your shots are what we all try to emulate...

Thanks for the comments - much appreciated - sir...

Regards,

Scott
