REDDAIR
Hello all, I bought a new computer with Windows 10 and previously asked about FSX in this forum. I nervously debated whether I should be compliant and first deactivate the existing FSX game and thereafter install a fresh base copy onto the new computer. There would be a lot of regret for either scenario since I installed a considerable amount of freeware over the last 5 years and enjoy using most of it, and would have to reinstall it. A lot of internet searching on the web was done, and there are about as many opinions on what you can and cannot do, just as there are as many different conditions which make your own situation seem different than anyone else--or so it goes. The worst part is---who is right or wrong? I decided to throw my fate to the whims of the geek world and go ahead and install FSX into the new PC without tampering with the existing copy on the older PC. So, I get to the "Activate" screen and delayed going further until the brave nerve in my body put me to it. So I typed in the 2 key numbers--one for the game and the other for the added "Acceleration" disk. There was a smug feeling as the game activated without issue! I had connected the 2 PCs with file sharing set up, but hardly believe this has anything to do with it. Just to let anyone who needs to know---this is my experience. Both games work well. Now I can examine the old add on files--as is, and hopefully decide what I could move (?) A question--Can you move freeware add on files with success--into the respective folders or are there unseen registry issues, etc? Or, correct the logbook to its prior status? What brought the brave moment about? I thought I read a comment somewhere FSX can be used on 2 PCs (Max), but the User Agreement sure does not show allow this. (?) mrzippy
The FSX police will soon be knocking on your door! Freeware addon files....Aircraft or scenery?? Don't forget about all the little quirky files that go with them, like gauges and effects/textures for aircraft and some of the funky .bgl files that need to go into places like Scenery/World/Scenery or Scenery/Global/Scenery in addition to Addon Scenery folder. The Logbook.bin file can be copied from one computer to the other without causing kerfuffles. Same with the Rewards.bin for all of your Mission successes or debacles. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
REDDAIR
OK, thanks mrzippy. It will be a lot easier comparing the files from monitor to monitor to make sure I fit this add on stuff in. The logbook will be tricky. I made a copy on the old system... Overall, it is just a lot of work. Redd
mallcott
Congratulations. Use the opportunity to limit what you install on the `new` version to what you actually need.
