FSX_IRIS_Phantom_AS_GA/IRIS Phantom Air Superiority Ground Attack

Have not used this software for a bit. Landed on the AI Carrier; taxied and lined up for the takeoff on the catapult. Front wheels placed just behind the launch bar. Press Shift+U and then Shift+I - nothing happens. Any other aircraft works correctly. Anybody have this happen to them? If so, what is fix? Enjoy this aircraft the most. Thanks

May I ask which AI Carrier you landed on? Were you using AICarriers.NET or .exe? Did you load the boat with AICarriers menu, or use one of the FSX default carriers?

Once you hit the SHFT+I did the JBD rise up, and the plane maybe move back or forward just a touch then lock in place? Did you get the Hold Back Bar Activated message? To launch, did you hit SHFT+SPACEBAR, or just wait to go automatically? Did you run the throttles up to just below AB activation?

Is that plane freeware? If so, I can test it out and see, but the answers to all those nosy questions will help ME help YOU a lot, and faster...

It sounds to me like there is something missing in the aircraft.cfg file. Or present. I have found that haveing the [launch_Aissist] section in the aicraft.cfg file can interfere with a plane designed to launch properly in hte model. In an older plane without the launch parameters in it, NOT having the [Launch_Assist] section can cause this, so it all depends on how they did the model it's self.

I hope we can get this sorted out :D

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

Thank you very much, Mr. Zippy!

I'll take a look and see what I can see. And yes, I will use my RIGHT eye to look, not the left. That quit back in '92 when I hit the horse on my bike. I am NOT gong to make any jokes about how he GOT on my bike...

Ok, I flew the Phantom for a while today. It's going to take me a few more flights to get proficient in it. I did make a few attempts to get in a good trap or three, but it doesn't seem to want to catch the wire, so I'll have to adjust the [tailhook] section first, then we can see about the launching. But I am getting it :)

I'm just very used to the FSDT FSX BA F/A-18C and the Phantom's HUD will take a little getting used to. Or I may just put the F/A-18's hud into the Phantom...

Or I may just slew onto the boat to get an idea about the launching stuff.

I apologize for all the questions, but the more i know, the more I can eliminate off the bat. Thank you for the good, but succinct, answers, they really will help out in this effort :D

I'll go as fast as I can.

Ok, got it.

Apparently this is an older model, without the proper entries in the .mdl file for the launch bar. Either that, or the dev who made the thing wasn't thinking about launching off a carrier, whatever.

No matter what, you need to make a couple changes to the .aircraft.cfg file.

First, to fix the launch problem, add the following entry to your aircraft.cfg:

[launch_assistance]
launch_bar_pivot = 5.0, 0.0, -1.0
launch_bar_lug = 5.0, 0.0, -4.5

ALSO: if you are having problems with the plane veering off suddenly when trapping, or even tipping over (ahem...we won't talk about it :rolleyes: ) then change the following entries, in red, in the [tailhook] section:

[Tailhook]

tailhook_length=7.0

tailhook_position=-40.5,0.0,0.0

cable_force_adjust=1.0

I hope this makes your Phantom experience a lot more Phun ;) :pilot:

Sir, the launch assistance code was missing - so I copied and pasted into the aircraft.cfg.

The same problem. No responses to Shift+U or Shift+I. I was surprised what you said about the tail hook. Shift+Q works fine on mine. Any other idea's??
