dewey10
It's been about a year since using FSX. I've moved everything to a new computer..Lenovo K450 i4400, 3.0mgh, 8 gigs DDR3 ram, GeForce 630 graphics with 2gigs memory, Win. 10. The last update nearly ruined my computer. Took me nearly a week to get everything going again. I've installed FSX everything went fine and it works fine. Then installed SP1, again everything worked fine. Tried to install SP2 when I click on it, it immediately shows message "the configuration data for this product is corrupt, contact your support personnel". No support with Microsoft. I've studied the forums for the past 5 days and can find nothing like this...I've tried installing and reinstalling FSX 7 different times now, following various suggestions regarding problems requiring uninstall and reinstall of FSX. Basically as follows 1. Close Anti Virus 2. uninstall FSX (I have even went through the registry and removed anything left over from FSX) 3. Clean install of FSX (no addons) 4. After #3, start FSX and make a flight (per one set of instructions) 5. Close FSX and install SP1 6. Again make a flight and then close FSX 7. Attempt to install SP2. (no joy) I've downloaded the SP2 file from all the different Flight Sims IE: AVSIM, Simviation, SOH, etc etc and Microsoft I've run the SP2 as Administrator and as User. In fact I've run all of FSX install as Administrator. Does'nt help. I've checked the registry path and I've used a program to make sure that the path was correct in FSX registry. It is..... I've enlisted the help of a friend who is pretty much of a FSX and computer guy and we cannot come up with anything else to try....I became aware the SP2 was not installed when I purchased a new aircraft from Aerosoft and it crashed the computer after 20 minutes flying. They checked my event logs and showed that I was not running with SP2......I need to clear this up before I flip my lid. Been trying for 2 weeks. Used to be a corporate pilot and I bought the Piper Cheyenne which I used to fly. Model and the panel looks very accurate and i would love to fly it... Any help would be very much appreaciated.....Thank you
napamule2
Between step 5 and step 6, AND between step 6 and step 7, YOU HAVE TO RE-START YOUR PC, not just quit and restart FSX. You 'almost' had it. Myself, I would start over by doing a format of the hard disk. This is easiest 'method' and makes it more 'clean' and therefore there should not be any 'issues' when you go install SP1 and SP2. Hang in there...FIRE IT IN... and go fly. StringBean
Before wiping your hard drive you might try another uninstall/reinstall following this guide- http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx If you format the hard drive you will lose everything on it, including Windows if it is on the same drive. amberdog1
I agree with bean on the reformat, best to wait on that. You do have to reboot the PC with each service pack. I have FSX on Win 10 with both SP's and not many issues save for 2 .dll crashes. Both are within this forum. Hope this helps.

napamule2
I know of at least one simmer that thought he could 'upgrade' his sim, to FSX, by just applying Sp1 and SP2....to his FS2004 installation!! I mean, they do things (x?) and then get an error. They blame FSX although it's a WINDOWS error. Fix you Windows and FSX will work (with tweaks) as it is supposed to work. My 2 cents worth (joke included at no extra charge). mallcott
Missing piece of advice - between installing SP1 and SP2 you don't just reboot the PC, you also need to load the simulator at least to a scenario where the aircraft is sitting on the tarmac or parking area. Once everything is stable, quit the sim. There are many temporary files that are only created and/or saved when FSX is loaded, then quit. These are necessary for SP2 to recognise and modify those files.
dewey10
Thanks for all the suggestions. None of them worked. FSX has now been uninstalled and reinstalled at least 10 times following proper proceedures....All files wiped and gone. Registry cleaned and anything to do with FSX wiped and gone. click on fsx_sp2_ENU.msi, (SP2) and still get "the configuration data for this product is corrupt contact support personel" This is FSX Deluxe Version direct from Microsoft. No such thing as support....Anyway thanks again for the time...... It's been about a year since using FSX. What Windows Update has ever caused a problem with FSX? I just did a clean re-install of FSX on my Windows 10 and didn't have a single issue. Can you point me to these other posts? http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png

napamule2
If your install doesn't start when you put the disc in, or you can't start the install by clicking on an exe there is an alternative method. You go to Control Panel, then 'Add or Remove Programs'. On left pane click on 'Add Program'. The window that opens presents you with option to install from 'CD or Floppy' button (works for DVDs too). Click on that. Then follow the on screen instructions to complete the SP2 installation. Maybe you should try that? mrzippy
I mentioned this in Bob's thread and I'll mention it again. Are you absolutely sure that your SP2 download is not somehow corrupt? I know it's been said you tried downloading from several sites, but could something like your antivirus program cause it to become corrupted? Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! dewey10
I've tried it with the anti virus turned off and it makes no difference. I've been fooling with FS since the 98 version. I'm no expert, but I've never seen or heard of this kind of situation It's strange because as soon as you click the file it gives the error message, so you can't open it, change it or do anything with it. I've tried run as administrator, user control off,etc etc. just won't open......

napamule2
Windows 10 is not the problem. Or at least it comes in thru the internet (naked and afraid?) as some thief in the night and (without willful 'intent') will invade your realm and render all that it touches 'INOP'. INOP means something like 'N/A' (Not Applicable) and is born mostly of ommission and not by design (ie:Win10 sucks). It may be your optical drive that is causing an error because Win 10 doesn't recognize it (no drivers for it). Could that be it? I wouldn't be surprised if it is. But it shouldn't be!!
