Brendonl8
Hello, I have just bought a amazing computer, and put in fantastic specs for gaming. I am a big FSX gamer with a lot of addons that I have lost serial numbers d passwords for those. I was wondering if theres a way to just transfer everything at once. I have FSX Steam Edition by the way. Thank you!
PhantomTweak
I don't know about the payware stuff, but for SE all you need to do is install it into the new PC. I personally took and just backed it all up into a zipfile and sent that over my home network to the new comp, then unzipped the planes, gauges, effects and so on to the new one from the zipfile. I think if you make a backup using the Steam menu, then "restore" to the new PC it might work, if you tell it to backup to the Cloud, but I may well be wrong on that... evm
Thank you! The higher class payware addons often have copy protection mechanisms against this or entries in the registry that are lost when you just copy them somewhere. If you have at least Win7 on your old PC, then if I were you I would: - Make a complete system image of your old system as backup - Plug the old HDD into the new system and run a dual boot setup: If you want to use FSX, boot from the old drive, in all other cases boot from your new drive - Clean up the Windows installation where FSX runs. Leave only what FSX needs, remove old drivers, services and system utilities. That way you minimize problems and cross compatibility issues. Your old windows system should recognize the new hardware, but keep the driver DVD ready just in case. In my experience, the first thing that stops working when Windows finds a new chipset is the network adapter, so the PC can't search for drivers and you are stuck... Another method would be to use the system image from step 1 and expand it onto a new harddrive / SSD. You can do that with the Windows recovery system, but there is software too for this (Acronis). ScatterbrainKid
Just to add regarding payware addons and their lost serial numbers and passwords, I know from past experience with other games that the companies we bought them from will often let us have a free replacement and/or new codes if we can prove it really was us who bought the original. I suppose they check our name/address/e-mail address/credit card number etc to make sure we were the genuine customer..:)
il88pp
If your old windows is OEM you can't move that to the new pc. In that case you will have to just install fsx fresh on the new pc OS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
evm
If your old windows is OEM you can't ooze that to the new pc. In that case you will have to just install fsx fresh on the new pc OS. Why? Technologically there is no difference. Legally it may depend on where you live. At least in Europe "they" lost the lawsuit about locking OS to specific hardware. W2DR
In the USA, if the OS is OEM Windows 7, the initial installation is locked to the first motherboard it's installed on and it can't be moved. With Windows 8.1 you can move the OEM OS to as many different machines as you like - but only on one at a time. I have no clue about the Dreaded Windows 10.
