Problem with AFAD mod not working

asos

Recommended Posts

I installed this file today:

FS2004 (ACOF) - FS2004 Scenery

FS2004 Scenery--Havre St-Pierre Airport

Name: cygvfs9.zip

Size: 1,290,845 Date: 11-03-2009 Downloads: 474

FS2004 Scenery--Havre St-Pierre Airport, Quebec, Canada. This scenery is a rendition of Havre-St-Pierre (CYGV) airport using Gmax. Information available in the latest official aeronautical publications and pictures was used as guide in order to reproduce buildings and other custom 3D objects as accurately as possible. By Pierre Gallant.

Then I used AFCAD and gave it Tower, Ground, Arrival, Clearance delay etc comm frequencies.

However none of them work. I only get the original Traffic frequency.

I have never encountered such a problem before. I even deleted the original AF2_CYGV.bgl file from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\CANADA\cygv, where I keep this scenery. Still, no joy...It did not work.

Can anyone help please?

Hi,

Apologies if I am wrong but, based on the information given you have given, the location that you have saved the scenery to appears to be an invalid one - it should be Addon Scenery\CANADA\cygv\Scenery (for all .bgl files) and, if required, \Textures for texture files. If placed at the \cygv level the new .bgl will not be recognised.

Regards

I have also seen a small problem with using AFCAD scenery modification. I found that you need to make a copy of the original .BGL file, then stash it into a back-up folder. Don't just leave it sitting in the original folder. Make certain that after you get done editing the scenery, there is only the modified .BGL file. If there are any others similar, the mods won't show up. You said you deleted the original, so you should be safe on that score, but make sure, just to be safe.

As to where he put it, the nice thing they did with the scenery, at least, is that you can stick it...ahem...sorry...PLACE it any place you like, as long as when you use the ADD Area button of the Scenery Library, you can navigate to the location you chose. You can put it on an entirely different drive if you so choose. If it's already added to the Library, then yes, you will have to follow the original placement, but if you uninstall then reinstall it, it can go any place. As long as the folder structure is correct. To wit: FOLDER NAME\Scenery and Texture. So cygv\Scenery and cygv\Texture, in this case, with the .BGLs in the Scenery folder.

Heck, you can stash ALL the .BGL files you choose to add on to the sim into the Addon Scenery\scenery folder. Most don't, so they can uninstall, change, whatever, particular sceneries more easily. But you CAN if you want. If you do it that way, it can get very bloated very quickly, so be careful.

Also, make sure there isn't a .BGL file in another folder it's reading after the one you changed, or it will use the second one, not the one you change.

I am NOT a big scenery type guy. I want to fly, not look, but that's just MY choice of how to use the sim. I have learned a few small lessons the hard way though :)

Hope all my rambling helps a little bit...

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

Thanks to all for your feedback.

I did more or less as Phantom Tweak says and placed all files at

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\cygv (1 scenery and 1 texture folder in there).

Now my AFCAD works fine.
