Sentry_FiveZero
I am wondering if there is a way to increase the number of digits in the "WIND" section of the display that you can pull up with the Ctrl+Z combo. It will only go to 99 even when winds are higher. USAF E-3 Crew Chief 1981-2001 FS2004 Century of Flight, FSX, flying since version 1.0! A&P Mechanic...still getting my hands dirty on E-3's!... frednav77
I had never noticed, but I don't think you can. Visit my Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/CaptainNav
mrzippy
Maybe you can try looking for a wind speed gauge that can be added to any aircraft. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
napamule2
When the wind gets to 99 I usually fly under/over/around any weather system generated wind (which you can see on Internet 'wind' maps). Or stay home. Of course the E-3 flys INTO that kind of weather, but WHAT DIFFERENCE does it make if it's 99 versus 150? I don't get it. Sentry_FiveZero
It will only DISPLAY up to 99 even though the winds are higher. The nav display on the aircraft will show the correct winds. I only wanted to be quickly able to see what the winds are without having to go to cockpit view mode if, say, I'm on external view mode. napamule2
Oh, ok. Well, how quick can you press 2 keys? From external view (locked spot view) the 1st key press is 'Snap to Panel View'. And the 2nd would be 'Locked Spot View'. These are view changes available to be assigned to any key or button. I use 10-Keypad and have these view changes for (very) quick view changes. Hope this helps. Perhaps you can get the FSX Commands list (fsxcmds.zip, 1.98 Mb, RadarMan) and print it out (1 page, landscape). Keep it handy (I do). Hope this helps. Chuck B Napamule PS: 2D cockpit=F10 and Locked Spot View=F11. How's that? Too easy. i7 2600K @ 3.4 Ghz (Turbo-Boost to 3.877 Ghz), Asus P8H67 Pro, Super Talent 8 Gb DDR3/1333 Dual Channel, XFX Radeon R7-360B 2Gb DDR5, Corsair 650 W PSU, Dell 23 in (2048x1152), Windows7 Pro 64 bit, MS Sidewinder Precision 2 Joy, Logitech K-360 wireless KB & Mouse, Targus PAUK10U USB Keypad for Throttle (F1 to F4)/Spoiler/Tailhook/Wing Fold/Pitch Trim/Parking Brake/Snap to 2D Panel/View Change. Sentry_FiveZero
I was only asking if anyone had ever messed with the config (if that's where it would be) or whatever to change this. Yes, you're right. I could just go to cockpit view and see it on the PFD, but I was wanting to be able to just look at the screen when in some other view mode and see what the winds were' that's all! napamule2
You mean modify the 'Shift+Z' text display on top of screen? You can do that and even change color of text. Simple mod in fsx.cfg. There have been a lot of posts. Search 'Shift_Z text' (or simular). I am sure you can find the answers there. I like to look at that text for speed, heading and altitude (to see if climbing or descending). I use it a lot. Sometimes I fly locked spot view for hours and never even look at the panels. Seat of the pants? I guess. But it works for vehicles, tanks, boats, etc. Cheers.
