bmatt569
I'm running FSX Gold and Win 10. I downloaded and TRIED to add Ray Smith's KELP (kelp_ade_rs_fsx.zip) and his KALB (kalb_ade_rs_fsx.zip) as well. After I've started FSX and loaded a flight the aprons, taxiways runways, service vehicles, etc. are there but no buildings. I go into the Options>Display>Scenery, the sliders for Scenery Complexity and Autogen Density are all the way to the left (Off). I move them to "Normal" (in the middle) and go back into FSX and the buildings are there. How do I get these setting to save so that I don't have to keep resetting the sliders? Seems like it should be pretty easy but ... well, I'm Technologically Challenged Bill, remember? Thanks for any and all help, as usual. mrzippy
Do the sliders move every time you close then reopen FSX? I'll test the 2 files you posted just to see if it's something they caused. JSkorna
Get the sliders where you want them and exit FSX. Slider positions are then saved. http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png
bmatt569
Thanks Zip, yes, they revert to the full left (off) position each time I close and reopen FSX. mrzippy
Thanks Zip, yes, they revert to the full left (off) position each time I close and reopen FSX. OK, I just installed KELP and did a test with no sliders moving to the left. I keep both of those maxed to the right. That download comes with 3 files...2 runway configurations and 1 Object .bgl Did you choose only one of the runway files to install into your AddonScenery/Scenery folder? I will test the other download shortly! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!

bmatt569
Sorry about the duplicate reply. Yes I only added one runway. Bill Mattson [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Airspeed, altitude and ideas, bad to run out of all three at the same time
bmatt569
All of this begs my question to you, Mr. Zippy, do you have a preference of airport sceneries? Do you like one author over another? mrzippy
All of this begs my question to you, Mr. Zippy, do you have a preference of airport sceneries? Do you like one author over another? Not really! If a scenery works, then I like it! P.S. KALB works just fine and no problems with sliders moving. If the scenery was installed correctly using the README, then I can't see these 2 downloads causing your issue. I do recommend maxing out both of those sliders! I'm astounded how many people have problems caused by not reading the README file. And yes, if I'm in a hurry, that does include me! "A stitch in time saves nine." jdwgraf
Isn't this a UAC problem ? The OP doesn't mention which version of FSX is installed or if it is installed in Program Files or a different location . Is the fsx.exe being run as admin ? Are all add ons installed using run as admin ? John
bmatt569
John, In the first line of my OP I said that I'm using FSX Gold. Yes, I run everything as an administrator. I found it easier to have my FSX file just in my C: drive. I make sure that the path to my FSX is correct before I install anything new. I DO try to read and understand the readme files before I do anything with a new product. All of that being said, I am a guy (a REAL man) and you know us REAL men, we don't need no stinking readme files (most of the time, but ... sometimes we have to go back and, ehem, reread them) Bill Mattson [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Airspeed, altitude and ideas, bad to run out of all three at the same time

jdwgraf
I " overlooked " the FSX Gold , sorry for that . The point I was trying to make ( badly ) had to do with permissions in Windows itself . UAC was bad enough in the earlier versions but thought that W10 brought " more fuel to the fire " so to speak . Must say though that installing as admin is not the same as setting the .exe to run as admin ( after installing ) . I must admit I have W10 ( on a quad boot system ) but hardly ever use it - spent a few hours yesterday getting the latest updates . After making any changes to settings it is possible to save those as a text file and then reload with each start of FSX , is that not a " solution " ? As far as README's go , when was the last time anyone actually read an instruction book after buying a new car / TV / DVD player / computer etc. etc. ? It's just not in our nature . I still haven't read the " novel " I received when I bought PaintShopPro X2 some years ago . Probably only utilise some 40% of the program because of that but it works for me !! bmatt569
I sincerely hope I didn't come across too harshly. I understood what you were asking, John, and I might have put it too strongly. No offense meant or taken. Your suggestions were valid and appreciated, good sir. bmatt569
WOW, thanks for everyone's help on this. I tried Mr. Zippy's suggestion about the sliders all the way right. I also moved several of the others as well. I made sure that I was running everything as the administrator, especially the .exe files. This has made a tremendous improvement to my simming experience. I have been doing the flight sim thing for so long I kinda expected it to look like MSFS 98 or earlier. I feel like a kid in a candy store! So many great things to look at.
