captdennison
OK, I know nobody flies FS9 but I do. My old computer took a dump, and I got another one. I am building my FS9 back again, and have suddenly encountered an issue that I can find no answer for. I am NOT too far into the rebuild, but I do not wish to dump and start again.\ So the problem is fairly simple I hope. I run FS9 with sliders to FULL, everything set to MAX. ALL was going good, but suddenly, instead of great looking sharp textures as far as the eye could see, I am now getting the POPPING into sharp details, an area around my aircraft that is basically in a PLUS sign type pattern Several squares x Several squares, the outsides of which are far less sharp until I fly over them, then they pop up and the ones behind my get less sharp. I have changed no settings, I was thinking it was a scenery I added in, but it exists now world wide. ANYONE who can help me on this, I would really be thankful to. napamule2
Have you got these lines in your FS9.cfg under the (Startup) section? HIGHMEMFIX=1 Fiber_Frame_Fraction=0.1 SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=1 If not, you need to 'finish' your FS9 install and tweak your FS9.cfg. Also, LOCK your frame rate to 30 fps (temp for trouble shooting). captdennison
I tried changing the frame rate to 29FSP but it had zero effect on this issue. I myself have found the sim runs Better in Unlimited frames. I know everyone says lock at 30, but on my system and even my crashed out XP I ran at unlimited. I shall try the edit you suggested. tiger1962
This change did NOTHING. Try changing the Terrain section in your FS9.cfg to these values: [TERRAIN] TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000 TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000 TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000 TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21 TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8 TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5 TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1 TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=30 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=40 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=5 Tim Wright "The older I get, the better I was..." captdennison
OK, Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Last night I was awake most all night, and made the discovery of WHY my sim suddenly went haywire. Last thing I did was add in EZ Scenery and its files, and also some newer Ground terrain and water files. I don not yet know exactly which went were. But I found that I had many of the same files stuck in the EZ texture, Scenery Word texture and Main Textures. After making this discovery I corrected it, but using my FS9 disks, and transferring the Texture files and the Scenery World texture files into the respective sections in the flight sim. Then Copying and pasting ALL the EZ files in Texture to the FS9 add on scenery, and then deleting those files, thus leaving that with JUST other add on textures. I was a plain in the butt, but it is done, and I once again can fly with sharp ground textures and unlimited vis. I guess I was tired when I added things in and just stuck them in the wrong places. PhantomTweak
I guess I was tired when I added things in and just stuck them in the wrong places. I can't tell you how many times, as a young Marine, I got drunk at a bar, late at night, and did that. Boy were the girls mad at me!! Mainly I can't tell you because my mind is a blank about a lot of that but I heard a lot of stories on the days following, mostly about me, sadly... :D :D :D I am sorry, I just couldn't resist. That line was just TOO easy to let pass by. My inner smart-Alek came on strong today. I am glad you got it fixed though. I've found that one must be careful about having the same textures in several sceneries in FS9. There is a small program, and darned if I can recall the name now, that will go through all your scenery folders, find all the same textures in different folders, and put them into Back-up folders for you, except the first instance of a particular texture, thus eliminating the problem. I'll see if i can dig it up again, if you like. Great flights and lotsa fun to all! captdennison
Yes, I know the program you are talking about. Too late to useit now. I did it the hard way. I am just happy that now I know that if I evver see that sort of thing again, I will use that file to fix it.
Qballbandit
Pat, I would love to know the program you reference above. If it isn't too much trouble, when you have a chance, would you be able to reply back with the name? Thanks much, Neil
PhantomTweak
Hello :) The program is called Find All Duplicate. Makes sense :) The file may be found in the library. Just CLICK ON THIS LINK to DL it, should you choose. It has a very good ReadMe file with it. It's pretty intuitive (big word for the day :D ) and easy to use, as well as install (unzip it to a folder. Tough, huh?). Hope that helps you some...
