Recommended Posts

I have downloaded = HMS_CVL_Majestic_class_V.4.1.zip =

Do I have to have another download so as to position these two A/C Carriers in the Latitude/Longitude positions I would like to

use them to takeoff/land on ?? [after adding the download to the add on scenery file] ?

You might try AICarriers.NET.

Did the carrier you DL'd come with an AICarriers config file, you could add to the program?

See, Static carriers are scenery. Like an airport, or a scenery object, like a type of tree, or Hanger. They are where the designer placed them. The ones that AICarriers can utilize are mobile, and can be placed any place you like. Sort of like an add-on aircraft.

Like uss_nimitz_ike_version2.zip by Javier Fernandez.

If you want, when I get back this evening I can look at yours and see if it will work with AICarriers. Just post the zip file so I can DL and look at it.

Does all that help you at all?

This is a vehicle, not a scenery file. It does not belong in "Addon Scenery"

It should be installed in:

...\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Boats

I use AiCarriers.exe.

AiCarriers.exe will not work with FSX-STEAM.

I don't have fsx-steam. I will explain how to use this, with AiCarriers.exe

Adding something like this to the Aicarriers program is possible.

You need to add a _cvn file to the conf.d folder of AiCarriers to do that.

I created a working cvn.cfg file for it.

Copy the following from the code-box,

save it as cvl_Maj.cfg

the RENAME it to: cvl_Maj.cfg

(becomes a .cfg file)

[formation.0]
title=HMS_MAJESTIC_CLASS_CVL
unit.0=HMS_MAJESTIC_CLASS_CVL, 0, 0

[formation.1]
title=HMAS_MELBOURNE_CVL
unit.0=HMAS_MELBOURNE_CVL, 0, 0

[formation.2]
title=HMCS_BONAVENTURE_CVL
unit.0=HMCS_BONAVENTURE_CVL, 0, 0

Of course you will need to install AiCarriers.exe to use it.

AND, AiCarriers.exe will not work with FSX-STEAM.

Here's an image of the result.

Aicarriers is a program that can add a ship 1, 5, or 10 miles ahead of you. You can then practice landings.

-----------

Another way of adding a carrier is to add it as traffic.

Almost like adding aircraft traffic.

The program to do that is called: "aibtc.exe"

(AI Boat Traffic Compiler.)

You create a traffic file, and the Ship then follows that route. (every day, or even twice a day.)

Setting up the traffic plans for it works differently from a Aircraft trafficplan.

It goes from waypoint to waypoint.

Start location, WP1, WP2, WP3, etc, until destination, and then back again to the start location, again pat all waypoints.

Yoou enter the waypoints in the file as coordinates.

The way I find the coordinates to use is by travelling in an aircraft to the route in FSX, and at times pausing, checking the map, and writing down the coordinates I am at.

Then on to the next waypoint.

You can also use a user-ship to sail the route and then do the same thing for writing down waypoints.

And there is a way to use a Google .kml file to create waypoints. But the Google map does not match the FSX map, so that gives weird results.

I prefer one of the first methods.

Happy flights,

il.

That's what I use. I don't like the AICArriers concept of teleporting a carrier (like in that seventies movie with Kirk Douglas).

Here's the link http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/software.html (the software, not the movie :cool:).

AICarriers.NET is a smaller program, by Mr. Orion Lau of the FSDream Team. Identical functionality, but .NET works in FSX-SE, AND FSX Box, both. It also uses less memory, and MUCH less CPU time. I always recommend that people using the .exe switch to the .NET version. It uses the .Net Framework, rather than the Java stuff.

It uses the same exact config files, the conf.d folder, everything is identical.

It was written with the express permission and assistance of the original program's author. The author requested that the .NET capitalization be used instead of the lowercase, especially in the FSDT and the AICarriers.NET forums, to easily differentiate between the two programs.

If you don't want to switch, that is, of course, your business. Up to you entirely. I just recommend that you do, since it uses less computer rescources.

(like in that seventies movie with Kirk Douglas).

The Final Countdown.

Not the greatest movie ever, but a couple REALLY nifty flight scenes. Only real redeeming virtue it has.

That and Kirk Douglas. Mr. Chin-Dimple himself!

I spent a couple duty-days when I was in Yuma with one of the sailors that was in the movie. The Quartermaster on the Bridge during a couple of hte scenes. Guy with big red beard. Back then, those were still authorized. He said Mr. Douglas had a marvellous sense of humor, and spent as much time laughing at himself as anything else.

They filmed most of it aboard the Nimitz, the Navy's Show-boat. I don't know if it still holds the distinction. but it used to also have the worst safety record in the Navy. Says something about filming movies...

My sailor friend said he was SO happy when he could get OFF that boat. Safer and much easier service just about anywhere else, and all the SNco's and Officers didn't act like they were Hollywierd stars...

Anyway, THAT's all why I recommend the .NET version over the older .exe version...

Captain Kirk Douglas CHICKENED out of defending Pearl Harbor, thereby breaking the Navy Oath to protect American lives and property, what a wuss..;)

Actually, it wsn't him, it was History that removed the Numb-Nutz from the Dec. 7 1941 playing field. The Capt. had just given the order to "Turn the Nimitz into the wind!" to launch an Alpha strike against the Japanese fleet and incomming aircraft, the planes were all loaded and spotted, and everything, and then the time-storm came up again, and grabbed the boat, sending it back into the future where it belonged. Where he met Mr. "Tideman", Cdr. Lasky and his wife, who had been marooned on a small island when the fat jerk-off Senator destroyed their helicopter, and the Nimitz went away.

I have that movie, still, someplace, on VHS tape. NOT that I've watched it a few (dozen) times...

Yes, Douglas spent most of the film waffling about whether to clobber the jap fleet, and at one point he even invites suggestions from his officers to help him make up his mind, but left it too late.

If I'd been there I'd have pushed for attacking and said "Sir, if you do nothing, over 3,000 people are going to die at Pearl."

I'd also have said "Sir, the Anzio landings failed through lack of drive, Churchill said 'we hoped we'd be hurling a wildcat ashore, but all we got was a stranded whale.'

So sir, we've been hurled back in time so are we going to be a wildcat and defend Pearl,or a stranded whale and do nothing?"

PS- the least he could have done early on would have been to pretend he was a small fishing boat or something and radio a warning to Pearl that he could see the jap fleet NW of Hawaii, and maybe they'd have sent out some PBY's to take a look.

Sorry all,

There was an error in the code I posted earlier. (First time I ever made a cvn.cfg file, sorry.)

With the code I gave, there were three ships from the majestic in the list in AiCarriers to choose from, but the ship that actually appeared was the same each time!

I fixed it now.

I adapted the code I gave, and updated post #5 so it now has the correct code.

I hope this reaches you in time.

Happy flights,

Great pics, il!

Now, put in motion. Make sure have the updated wake effect. It really looks good, and is a very useful reference point when doing carrier recoveries. And let's face it, if you're going to land on the boat, doing an overhead recovery is the ONLY way a REAL Navy pilot does. Especially a SH Break recovery...

Only trash haulers and boot newbies do long, easy straight-in's! What weenies they are:D

  • 1 year later...
AICarriers.NET sounds great if I could only find it to D.L. Been around the world and my elbow and can find all kind of info on it except where to D/L.. Thanks.

Sorry I can't do a link! Google search fsx aicarriers. net and choose the first listing for FSDreamteam. In the first thread by Orion there is a DOWNLOAD link.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️
