Various issues with turboprop engines on C2A Greyhound from Abacus Flight Deck 4.

Got the C2A Greyhound from Abacus Flight Deck 4 going (yes, it was legally bought). It does pretty well everything I want, but it seems to have some minor annoying issues.

1. Idle on the ground is also too high, well, it applies too much power. Without the parking brakes on, the A/C accelerates reasonably rapidly, even near MGTOW.

2. There are parameters in aircraft.cfg that suggest it has reverse pitch on the props, but this doesn't seem to work. After landing, I do an F1 then multiple F2s, the engines rev up and the aircraft speeds up.

3. Not sure what the correct term here is, but the steering seems to "sensitive". Very difficult to make fine changes to heading on the ground whilst on take-off/landing roll and when taxiing - it swings very wildly. Yes I am a hopeless pilot, well aware of that, but seem to have more problem with this guy than any other A/C (OK this probably isn't an engine issue).

I am happy to post and modify aircraft.cfg parameters. I also have AirEd and have learnt how to use it so can extract things from the model file if necessary.

EDIT: Some issues resolved, thanx for help.

Just so you know AirEd is for eediting the .air file, not the .mdl file...

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

General advice for managing turboprops:

You must set engine condition to either ground or flight (just before takeoff and just after landing. If you have a physical control used for mixture on reciprocating engines, this is the condition lever for turboprops. Full rich for flight; as lean as possible (without engine cutoff) for ground.

Then, once that's done, you can try to taxi and see how it works. Further adjustment is possible in the aircraft.cfg file. In the propeller section is a line item for min beta. A lower number will produce less idle thrust; a larger number more. Tweak that for your personal happiness.

I try to find a value such that idle throttle with condition set to ground will result in the airplane does not roll forward and condition set to flight will taxi fast, so that I can control taxi speed with engine condition, not throttle.

I do not have a throttle control (thus, NO conditioner) in my panel. Still the Greyhound 'behaves'. Must be due to my NEW FDEs (turbo prop) for the 'COD' (dah). Takes off 80 kts. Cruise 235 kts. Lands 68 kts. Does not 'creep' when on idle. Taxi 21 kts. Reverse thrust works. Enjoy the video (it's in the 'Flight Video' forum).

But, anyhow, here is the link:

Chuck, I was hoping you would get onto this. Would you favour me with a copy of your FDE? Thx.

I have changed both min_beta and minimum_on_ground_beta as per previous reply, which has stopped the ground creep. But reverse pitch still doesn't work.

Saw your video. Your take-offs and landings are smoother than mine. My Greyhound has a lizard mascot and is called the Let's Go Anna. That's a very Ustriyan joke which I may explain to you one day :D :D :D .
