Evo2015

Having read all of the good reports about this product I'm thinking of getting it myself now but would appreciate some feedback from users on a few points. Yes, I know I could ask Sacha but I expect he is up to his eyes in work and I don't want to take his time from further development.

I use FScene for replacement textures so presumably I won't need these any more - right?

I use Flight Environment for clouds, sky and water enhancements. My understanding is that EVO2015 replaces water textures so presumably if I use Flight Environment after installing EVO I'm going to overwrite EVO - right?

Do you pay Sacha via Paypal?

What size is the download?

I've read that installation is a bit "tricky" but that Sacha includes detailed instructions. Is it very involved for someone who is very computer literate and very familiar with FS2004?

Does anyone regret buying the product?

Many thanks for any replies.

I personally use the combination of FE9G, RealityPack1.2, some textures from HDEv2 and FS Global 2010 mesh to improve FS2004 to the point where I'm still happy to use it over FSX.

I investigated Evo a little bit, but since there's no proper website and a lack of user reviews, proper screenshots, etc. then sending somebody I don't know money for a product that it isn't really advertised at all didn't seem like a sensible thing to do. Plus I don't spend a whole lot of time looking at ground textures, and most addon airport sceneries include some for where I will.

Thanks for the replies!

I didn't realise that there was a dedicated forum "over there" - shows just how infrequent my visits there are!

Having looked that the screenshots I'm not sure that I really need the product. I'll wait until Sacha has completed the Spring textures and then give it some more consideration - perhaps!

Well ..... I've tried, I REALLY REALLY tried to like this product. I donated some time ago and have 3 generations of this product. I tried and didn't like the 1st generation, so I removed it and have been using GEPro since. Recent glorious praises of EVO 2015 with updates prompted me to give it a go. I will show you what I found. It doesn't matter how nice the streams, lakes, sky, roads etc., etc., etc. are if it doesn't delpict REAL conditons.

To try this, I fly out of my local airport ... Blairsville, GA .... in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I found a nice spot in the air that depicted both the mountains and less hilly terrain. I "Parked" the airplane there and took screenshots ... first using EVO 2015 with all updates and then GEPro. There was NO coloration used in all shots. WYSIWYG.

I'll start out with Winter, as that's what is currently is. Ground colors here are BROWN. The mountains are mostly BROWN, with bare/brown hardwood trees and patches of green from pine/fir trees. That's the way reality IS.

First shot: EVO Winter at today's date/time:

EVO_Winter_Blue Ridge Mountains.jpg

What's up with all the GREEN? I am chagrined. This doesn't look anything like reality around here ....

Next, GEPro Winter at same date/time

GEPRO_Winter_Blue Ridge Mountains.jpg

Sorry, this is almost spot on. Winter goes to GEPro in reality comparison.

Maybe FALL with give EVO a chance to catch up:

EVO_Fall_Blue Ridge Mountains.jpg

Well .... pretty green still with only a SLIGHT variation in colors.

GEPro Fall:

GEPRO_Fall_Blue Ridge Mountains.jpg

I see more coloration from the trees here. I give edge to GEPro again for a realistic view.

OK.... let's take EVO Summer:

EVO_Summer_Blue Ridge Mountains.jpg

Can't say this is too bad as everything should be green

How about GEPro:

GEPRO_Summer_Blue Ridge Mountains.jpg

Again, not bad. Tint/Intensity of green is up to the beholder on this one .... but I still like GEPro

SO ..... What I see is pretty much 50 Shades of Green from EVO .... and a little bit "fake-ish" (dare I say "cartoonish" ... oops, I did) at that. GEPro gives me a more REALISTIC rendering for the landscape around here.

Hey, I give props to EVO for improving some items, like streams ..... and their EVO NIGHT LIGHTS ARE FANTASTIC. Other than that ..... thumbs down from me. Sorry, but it just ain't "sensational", "magnificent", "mind-blowing" in my book.

Your mileage may vary.

I just googled Blue Ridge mountains. Every shot didn't show them to be 'blue' at all. Mostly very green. Only difference seemed to be the trees changing colour. Maybe EVO's trees don't change as much as some other packages through the various seasons.

I always prefer using the HD simulations trees package. VERY high quality that add lots to the visuals.

Although you could do what you've done to every part of the world using every world package from every platform and at some point it won't be an exact fit. Some complain of t being too green. Compared to some countryside in southern Australia in winter/spring, it's not green enough. So go figure.

Try a new tree package, gwillmot. And try sweetfx. Great for tweaking those little areas that aren't quick perfect.

Blue Ridge Mountains ARE green .... just not in Winter nor Fall (really cool leaf colors)

I see no problem with the trees so am keeping what I have.

I really dislike every picture I've seen with sweetfx. That's why comparison is WYSIWYG "out of the box".

I have used other packages besides EVO and GEPro (BirdsEyeView and that other one that can't be mentioned because it was created for FSX then converted for FS2004 .... you know). It is clear that a person's choice is purely subjective, so no one package (including GEPro and EVO) should ever be touted as the "holy grail" of FS2004 reality. Unfortunately, some do so. That was my point.

I only noticed with EVO that the trees didn't reflect the seasonal changes like the GePro pics.

So don't like these with sweetfx??:

True. But Sascha has gone the extra mile with EVO with far better autogen placement in my eyes which adds much to the experience flying on a desk is limited too. Certain fields and textures are superbly done. The English fields are stunning.

Thanks Glenn for this report and screen shots. I was wondering about EVO so I was watching this thread with interest. Just last week I purchased GE1 (after reading about the Pro version I decided to get GE1 because of my lack of interest in coordinating with current/real weather).

To my eye it does some things better than BEV (ground textures & autogen) and some things worse (BEV is better at trees), but the pros outweigh the cons so I've kept it in place so far. One of the nice things is that they both have good utilities that allow rolling back to default, so it only takes a few minutes to swap them if a particular location favors one or the other.

Your screen shots are very helpful.

Thanks,

Clayton

SweetFX is nice, but at night I have to turn if off as it makes everything dark. I use FS2004, maybe I'm not using good settings. What settings are you using? Is that FSX? Looks awesome!
