FSX Cockpit Lights

I have been trying to to experiment with more cockpit lights, but run into a max. number of lights.

If a new light is added, some other light turns off. Is there a way to increase the allowed number

of lights?

I think the max number of lights was 18. What aircraft are you trying to modify? Cockpit lights...meaning VC lights?

Sorry, I don't have that or any other payware aircraft. When you say you "increased" that, what does that mean? Maybe post your Aircraft.cfg [Lights] section.

I see your VC is lighted with red lights. Are you looking for a brighter cockpit, maybe using white light?

This is the Carenado .cfg lights.

num_lights = 8 //Maximalt antal lights----- kan tilsyneladende godt overskrides?

light.1 = 3, -3.05, -18.11, 2.9, fx_navredharald

light.2 = 3, -3.05, 18.11, 2.9, fx_navgreharald

light.3 = 1, -20.3, 0.0, 6.63, fx_beaconharald

light.4 = 2, -3.37, -18.14, 2.88, fx_strobeharald

light.5 = 2, -3.37, 18.14, 2.88, fx_strobeharald

light.6 = 3, -20.37, 0.0, 1.46, fx_navwhiharald

light.7 = 4, -1.8, -0.66, 1.30, fx_vclightcarpanel1 //Lys på venstre intrumentpanel.

light.8 = 4, -1.8, 0.66, 1.30, fx_vclightcarpanel2 //Lys på højre instrumentpanel.

light.9 = 4, -2.00, -0.70, 0.30, fx_vclightcarharald //Lys i cockpit, svagt, mest nederst.

light.10 = 4, -1.73, -0.40, 0.55, fx_vclightgearupdwn //Lys på gear indikatorlamper.

light.11 = 4, -2.31, 0.00, 2.23, fx_vclightcompas //Lys på magnetkompas.

light.12 = 5, //Skal stå her, for at amperemeter indikerer forbrug

light.13 = 6, //Skal stå her, for at amperemeter indikerer forbrug

//De sidste lights kan ikke bruges, på grund af Max lights / num_lights = 8

//light.12 = 4, -2.00, -0.83, 1.45, fx_vclightcarpanel1

Sorry, my Danish is not up to snuff!

light.7 = 4, 1.8, -0.66, 1.30, fx_vclightcarpanel1 // light on the left instrument.

light.8 = 4, 1.8, 0.66, 1.30, fx_vclightcarpanel2 // Light on right instrument panel.

light.9 = 4, -2.00, -0.70, 0.30, fx_vclightcarharald // Light cockpit, weak, most bottom.

light.10 = 4, -1.73, -0.40, 0.55, fx_vclightgearupdwn // Light on the gear indicator lights.

light.11 = 4, -2.31, 0.00, 2.23, fx_vclightcompas // Light on the magnetic compass.

light.12 = 5, // Should be here to ammeter indicates consumption

light.13 = 6, // Must be here to ammeter indicates consumption

// The last lights can not be used because of Max lights / num_lights = 8

//light.12 = 4, -2.00, -0.83, 1.45, fx_vclightcarpanel1

//light.13 = 4, -1.85, 0.00, 0.1, fx_vclightcarpanel1

Even though it says max lights=8, it looks like it has 11 lights. So to answer my question....do you want a brighter white light maybe over the left panel?

Do the panel lights have a brightness knob? I found this on the Careando site about the Skylane.

The panel light controls are to the left of the Yoke, where it says "dimming". You can use the mouse wheel to control those dimmers.

Your translation is just fine!

Yes, I have 11 lights now; but to get there I had to cut down the more sparkling effects of the external lights. And I cannot get any further that way.

Panel lights control works with mouse wheel, but only on/off. (thats ok for me)

The idea was to make the impression that instrument panel lights really came from the original panel light bulbs - the original Carenado background light makes the panels look

very "flat", adjusting knobs fail to look 3 dimensional.

So I could use some more lights, if there was a way.

You said "if a new light is added, some other light switches off"

which light, was added?

and which light did that switch off?

I have, in the 747, two VC lights. Each uses it's own switch.

I can switch both off (dark), one on (faint light), the other on (a little brighter), or both on (very bright).

What happens is, when I swtich one on == ok

swtitch the other on == also ok

but switch one of them off again, and now somehow the nav lights switch off with it.

That is not really a problem with the lights, it is a problem with the switches.

Ooops, actually I just tested, using the completely original 747. And to my surprise, even without the second light assigned it does this. When I use the normal VC light switch, the Nav light switch moves as well. (Not the first time, but every time after that it does. Like this.

---VC light switch:-----Nav Light

Start position On -----Off

Switch it On ---------stays Off

Off---------------------On

On---------------------Off

------------------------Nav ON----------VC light switch stays on as well.

etc

Could well be that's what happening in your plane as well.

By the way, It's not something I worry about. When I switch the VC light on, I just need to remember to push the nav light switch to on afterwards as well.

Perhaps in your plane is something similar. You can work around the same way. Just remember this happens, and click the other switch to switch those lights back on again.

Another 'workaround' would be to not assign anything to the switch that is causing the issue in your plane. You will have to assign the attached lights to a different switch.

I would have thought that most payware aircraft would have back-lit gauges that automatically turn on at Dusk. Some of my freeware aircraft do this and there is no need for any overhead panel lighting to turn on.

If I activate light 14 in the above .cfg it gives me the wanted light on right panel, at the same time light 7 turns off and I miss light on left panel.

Switching panellights off and then on again gives me all lights for half a second, then light 7 is off.

I seem to hit a maximum number of light emitters, but it does not seem to have connection to the switches.

What happens if you hit the L key (all lights on)? Have you tried changing the effect for light 14?

light.14 = 4, -2.00, 0.88, 1.45 , fx_vclightcarpanel2

Try light.14 = 4, -2.00, 0.88, 1.45 , fx_vclightcarpanel1

Using the L key gives same result= all lights on for about half a second, then light 7 goes off. Same thing happens when I use light 14 with fx_vclightcarpanel1.

I still think that I hit a max. number of light emitters, and have to find a way to increase that number.

Thanks for the help to both of you.

I think I will have to be satisfied with what I can get.

I took away the light on gear indicators, and instead inserted an xtra left panel light.

I noticed however that even if I "remark" all external lights out, and have only 5 cockpit lights on, I can not add another cockpit light.

I will stay with this one:carenado182rg_2016-1-11.jpg
