Scaryplane
Hello, I've just tried adding scenery to my Flight Simulator and once I restart the simulator, and error pops up saying "You do not have permission to install new files on this computer. Please have an administrator log on to complete the scenery installation." I am an admin on my computer, and I tried running as administrator and making another admin account. Neither solves the issue. I am using Windows 10 and I've heard problems about it and I researched everywhere. Does anyone know a good fix for this? JSkorna
Hi, It's not a Win 10 issue. You installed into the default path, which is highly protected from changes. Install FS to C:\FS9 or C:\FS 2004 http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png

JSkorna
So I need to create a new folder in C:\ and install it in there instead? No need to create anything. The installer will create everything. http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png
Scaryplane
I created a file C:/FS2004 and installed the flight simulator in to that location and it said "Please login with administrator privileges and try again." I then reinstalled it for the second time and got the same error. I tried running as an admin and after the pop up to run as admin, nothing happened. This happened before the second re-installation too. I tried restarting just to make sure and I checked to make sure that the security options under properties allowed me full control. Where do I go from here?
shanwick
I don't have Windows 10 myself but you may care to do what I have done in Windows 7. Find the FS9.EXE file, right click on it and in the drop down menu select Properties and then the Compatibility tab. Under Privilege Level tick the box "Run this program as an administrator." As I said, this is for Win 7 but I would imaging there is something similar in Win 10. Hope this helps. Dijvid
JSkorna
Have you performed one of the Windows Update security workarounds written about in about 10 different threads below? http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png
tgibson_new
Hi, Yes, you now have a different problem. As stated above, read one of the many posts about FS2004 not starting or requiring admin rights to start. il88pp
You say "it doesn't run", but what do you mean? Do you mean you can't start fs9, or do you mean you can't install it? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Scaryplane
I can't start it now.
il88pp
There is a windows update that stops fs9 from running. Described here. Sorry, i couldn't find one of the shorter threads on it. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?293089-Sim-won-t-load [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
longbreak754
..........Sorry, i couldn't find one of the shorter threads on it........... As stated the suggested thread is long (10 pages). Unfortunately, many of the shorter threads also simply point to the suggested thread. The suggested thread does give you an overview as to what is the cause of the problem that affects Win 7/8/10 but refers to some actions that do not apply in this instance as you are using Win 10, I suggest you look at these relevant entries: This post suggests a workaround as posted by MS Post #88: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?293089-Sim-won-t-load!&p=1943676#post1943676 OR This post that gives a variation of the same information as the above post but without visiting the MS site: Post #71: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?293089-Sim-won-t-load!&p=1942450#post1942450 Your other option is to use the 'no-cd' fix. Google it and you will find info on where to get it and how to use it. Regards Brian

Having said that ,as he suggests and what i suspect most users on the fs9 forums would agree with, is the final sentence of his post...................... "Your other option is to use the 'no-cd' fix. Google it and you will find info on where to get it and how to use it." This fix is your very good friend and will give you trouble free fs9 use in the future. Its still worth reading the thread he mention's though ,it's just interesting. Cheers Andy :)
Scaryplane
Thank you all. I fixed the scenery admin problem by simply installing the simulator into C:/FS2004 and I fixed the problem with the game not starting by the no-cd patch. I appreciate all of your help. I can now enjoy my simulator again.
