Founder Nels_Anderson Posted December 30, 2015 Founder Share Posted December 30, 2015 Getting more planes is easy. You can buy them: https://www.fspilotshop.com/ Or you can download them from the file library here at FlightSim.Com. The fact that you did not know this already tells me you really should read our introduction for newcomers: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/content.php?12-Help-For-New-Flightsimmers This should help you get started. il88pp
FSX comes with 24 planes installed. Each one in several different texture variations as well. I would think that would tie you over for a while...:):) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ScatterbrainKid
hi all. ive recently just got a gaming PC and was looking at getting a flight simulator and was thinking of FSX..... FSX:SE (Steam Edition) is currently only 3.99 GB pounds (6 US dollars) in their New Years sale until Jan 4th, so I'd buy it if I were you..;) http://store.steampowered.com/app/314160/
jorgen.s.andersen
For joystick I will recommend the Thrustmaster HOTAS X. It has separate joystick and throttle, there is a rudder bar on the front of the throttle, and it has buttons for flaps, landing gear etc. You can get this in stores (at least in the US and here i Germany) or online at Amazon. The price is around 50 USD. Jorgen
ScatterbrainKid
..also will be needing a joystick any recommendations? I bought myself this new baby a few weeks ago for 30 GB pounds (45 US dollars) and it works fine, it's got a twist grip for rudder and a hat for panning the view...:) http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub2/thrust_master_stick_zps8oimplce.jpg~original
jorgen.s.andersen
This is what the joystick part of mine looks like, except that mine doesn't have the throttle and those buttons on the base, on mine they're on the throttle part. Personally, I don't like the "twisting" of the stick to control the rudder, and on the HOTAS X you can eliminate that by locking the stick from twisting with a small screw on the right-hand side of the stick, then pushing the lit button on the throttle to make it go red. That way the rudder bar on the throttle part works. Jorgen
HoratioWondersocks
Hello I would also recommend the Thrustmaster Hotas X (which also works with fs9 as well) You get a lot of joystick for your money. Plus ! it comes with a large and separate throttle control ,,all this in one unit. Mine is about two years old and still going strong. My only gripe.....this stick is solid and heavy ,alright if your fssetup is fixed ,but if like me your flightdeck is somewhat chaotic ie old sofa ,my feet up /down/everywhere, (during the course of a flight)cables TV,beer ,food etc.. in short shambles, there are times when a nice cordless ,lightweight joystick would be welcome. If and when my Hotas X dies ,I may go back to something smaller, cordless and lighter. Overall.....in this price range ,you get a lot of good ,reliable , solid (heavy) joystick for the money . If your more organised than me flightdeck wise this could be a good choice for you. It also has health benefits too ,as the stick doubles as a weight lifting course . :) Cheers Andy
mallcott
I can only recommend the Thrustmaster Warthog throttle and stick combo. About the priciest of the `hobbyist` options, but massively well built (you'll almost need access to a trolley when the UPS guy delivers it, if he doesn't tell you to collect it from his van yourself...), easily configurable. The problem with the FF2 is that it is long out of production, cannot be fixed, spares are no longer available and - the Big One - force feedback is very poorly implemented in FSX, rendering its features all but irrelevant without spending extra on software, which does improve things markedly, it has to be said. So for your early days I recommend any old cheap `stick that has a throttle slider and a coolie button.

ScatterbrainKid
im looking for flight sim to look like this: anyone know how to achieve this? also anything free would be a great help Default FSX is beautiful straight out of the box, so there's no need to rush into getting any addons! In fact I've had FSX for 8 years and the only things I've added in all that time is a strip of southern england photoscenery and some addon planes. At least get used to your default FSX for a few weeks before you think of adding new stuff, as it can sometimes be a bit tricky to add. I'd start with addon planes if I were you because they're a piece o' cake to install, there are a load of free ones, just type the name into your google search box such as 'fsx vulcan' and see what comes up. Incidentally many FS2004 planes work in FSX.
