Trouble with Justflight Revolution X

Has anybody here got Justflight's Revolution X scenery?

I just bought it for myself by download as a christmas present but it won't work (sniffle), the installation and activation procedure were a bit fiddly and it's not showing up in my ingame list of scenery.

I sent in a request for advice to JF Support but I don't expect a quick reply because of the hols.

I'm sure the solution is simple so if any members can suggest a remedy I'd be over the moon.

So you did the download and then used an auto-installer to "install" it to your Sim? Does it have to be activated in the Scenery Library? Do you see it with a check mark in the Scenery Library?

Old Saint Nick didn't drop a lump of coal in your stocking, did he?;)

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

What do you mean by " the installation and activation procedure were a bit fiddly"?

Did it ask for the location of the FSX folder, or did it seem to find it OK, and then

seem to install? Any new folders within the FSX folders?

Looks like it would really spruce up the UK photoreal stuff.

Following your link I see:

"•Hard drive space for basic installation: 600MB (up to 1.5GB additional space may be required if you activate the maximum number of scenery areas)"

Can you find the 600mb to 1.5 gb anywhere?

The product only covers England, Scotland and Wales. So if you are outside that area, you will not see anything new.

Intel I7 3770K, ASRock Z77 Extreme4 mb, 16gb Corsair Vengeance, Nvidia GTX970, Realtek surround sound, 5TB WD Black SATA Drive

It's autogen, I think it's not supposed to show up there.

Dunno what trail to follow, but not this one IMO.

These localized autogen products are sceneries and you have them in your library - unless you copy them into a scenery folder that you already have (and by doing that lose the ability to turn it off or play with scenery layering). I got this Revolution thing as separate scenery, so I can add or remove it to the library manually as needed.

Here's a shot of Revolution X after I got it working at last, (hey all you publishers out there, I'm not a geek, just a grunt simmer/gamer so I wish you'd write the instructions and stuff in plain english)

It places trees and fictional buildings on Photoreal scenery (which you must have already installed) and it's not bad-

Right - I think it's a cool product. Congratulations on getting it working!

For those with similar problems, as the others mention in the thread, it's autogen that shows on photo-scenery so basically it doesn't change scenery.cfg or need to be activated as long as you have the corresponging photo-scenery (it installs agn files in a Texture folder alongside the photo-scenery's bgl files in their Scenery folder.

For RevolutionX you must have matching photo-real scenery like Just Flight's VFR areas, Horizon VFR Generation X , or Megascenery England (I think that's what they're all called). They all have different "coverage areas", like South, South-West, North, etc., so you have to make sure, by following the installation instructions, that your RevolutionX files go into the right folders i.e wherever they were installed, RevolutionX will place a Texture folder and files or you may have to copy files manually. The basic structure, for each area depending upon photo-scenery product, should look something like:

"Drive":\..\"Photo-Scenery Name" or "Area"\Scenery for the photo image *.bgl files

"Drive":\..\"Photo-Scenery Name" or "Area"\Texture for RevolutionX *.agn files

"Drive"\..\"Photo-Scenery Name" or "Area" itself should be present and active in the scenery.cfg file and the photo-scenery working in FSX.

The "Drive" and location of "Photo-Scenery Name" or "Area" folder names and their actual location on your system will vary and may not even be in the FSX folder(s).

I, though it mainly uses stock FSX autogen objects, think it also installs some of its own autogen objects (like night-time street lighting) and changes a couple of special FSX "system" files so that the custom objects show up.

And, of course, it's always good practice to have your FSX backed up (always) even though RevolutionX and other add-ons make their own backups.

Please knowm I'm not connected with the developer or store so might not have thus 100% right but it's pretty much how my own USA products work. :-)

..Congratulations on getting it working!..

It was a pure fluke that I somehow got it working after half-a-dozen tries, I must have accidentally pressed all the right buttons in the correct sequence!

Gosh I absolutely detest computers and always have done, I signed up for a free comp course some years ago but the tutor kept talking to us about spreadsheets and databases and stuff, and I thought "I don't need this krap" and walked out, but he came after me down the corridor with a worried look asking where I was going (he was paid by the jobcentre according to how many people were in his class), so I said "Er...to the toilet", and went in there but I could hear him pacing outside like a Colditz sentry!

He eventually buggered off so I slipped out and made a successful home run..:)

Sounds to me that you like "what" computers can do (e.g. FSX), as do most people, but can't be hassled with the "how". And, you know what, that's exactly the way it should be - tech serves a purpose and isn't the "main event" itself! Like you want a car to get around but don't want to know how to build it or fix it - unless you're really into cars.

Shame on us developers when we make it hard for users to install and use our products!

Your teacher should've made his class relevant and fun!

If I buy a toaster I don't want to have to take a "toaster" course to find out how to work it, I just want to insert my slice of bread and wait til it pops up..:)

Same with computers, I want to be able to simply insert a sim or game disk and have it automatically install itself like clockwork while I go off for a cup of tea and take in a "When Ghosts Attack" episode on TV..:)

PS- I may know zilch about computers, but I know how to make my little men and tanks and planes whizz around on screen shooting their guns, I topped another PC wargame play-by-email league again earlier this year (Combat Mission: Black Sea, Russia vs Ukraine and NATO) at age 67, whupping people half my age including serving military officers, I'm kool.

Oh, and my aircraft photothreads at the Mission4Today forum (I'm Poor Old Spike there) have just topped 6 million views, so my street cred is way off the scale..:)
