casey jones
Mr Paul Clawson built his version of the Convair B-36B for FS2000 and I would like to try and convert it for FS9. I see a number of planes converted from FS9 to FSX and CFS2 to FS9. One thing I see in most FS8 planes that they do not show any landing gear. The Convair B-36B for FS2000 also will not show landing gear but it does show up in FS9. I think the ACG File has to be changed and or the Air File. jgf
I think you would need the original 3D files in order to rework the gear to function in FS9 (there are differences in how the animations are handled), then convert that to .mdl files. I don't know if Mr. Clawson is still actively modeling, but you could ask if he would do this, or possibly has already updated the aircraft. On the other hand, Alphasim has a nice FS9 B36 for a mere $16 (https://flyawaysimulation.com/news/1332/) ...a viable option to the hours it would take to convert the FS2000 model. napamule2
Since the Paul Clawson model (orig for FS2000) is FSDS you don't need to 'convert' it and will show and fly in FS2004. You might need to tweak the aircraft cfg and the air file (which is what I did) but that's it. I downloaded it and installed in FS9 and it flys well. NO PROPS, the nose wheel doesn't turn, flaps don't show, and the glass is 'funky' so I did it just for kicks. There is a B-36H by Kaz Ito for FS2004. It will be turbo prop engines but you can convert to piston engines for better fly. I made a video for your entertainment - Link: . jgf
... you don't need to 'convert' it ... You would if you want all the expected animations to work. But yes FS2000 planes will usually fly well in FS9. I've used numerous FS2000, even FS98, aircraft in FS9, not to fly but for AI - they have lower poly counts so aren't as much of a frame rate hit as newer models ...and i don't care if AI aircraft don't have all their animations (though it is odd to see the occasional aircraft land and "hover" down the runway because it has no visible gear). MBKHOU
I made a video for your entertainment Chuck B Big ole planes.. One of my uncles flew those things back in the 50's.. He was in SAC. I like watching the movie "Strategic Air Command".. Have it in my collection. Some good real world shots of that plane in that movie.
napamule2
Yeah, I read this was the B-36 in that movie. Pete Cambell recorded the sound off of that movie and is what Paul Clawson included in the zip. I was in the Air Force in the 60's and remember the SAC aircraft. Where I was stationed, 45 mile NW of Las Vegas Nevada (865th Radar Station, or, 'Angel's Peak (8,650 ft elev)) radar site, they droped the X-15 right over us as we were the ones that 'tracked' it (all of 10 seconds before it was (poof) GONE!). While using FS8 aircraft for the first time, you will be asked whether following line should be added to FS9.cfg: [FrameCallNoWarn] Convair B-58=0 Modifying value to 1 it normally allows to show the gear. But it doesn't allow to show propellers. So it's limited to jets. aircraft.cfg and .air files have no impact on visual effects. They could be replaced to get other flying behaviours. napamule2
The sim will ask if you want to DISABLE certain ('possibly incompatible') features of that particular aircarft. If you say 'NO' then the sim will (auto) add that aircraft to the (FrameCallNoWarn) section (list) in the FS9 Cfg. Just saying. Wana see my list? MBKHOU
Yeah, I read this was the B-36 in that movie. Chuck B Same plane, but none of the ones I see in the movie have the red paint. Most are fairly plain, and have the SAC emblem on the right nose. It's kind of a time capsule, and most was based on real world, and most of the shots seemed to have been taken at the real world Carswell AFB at Fort Worth. On the first takeoff in the movie you can see that they were using runway 18, and you can see some of Ft. Worth west of the field as they climb out. Also, some good B47 footage in the 2nd half of the flick.

MBKHOU
All is well ..... EXCEPT .... downtown Ft. Worth is EAST of Carswell. White Settlement is WEST of Carswell ..... just say'n I thought all that area was part of Fort Worth, but maybe not.. I suspect the city boundaries have grown a tad since 1954 also.. I was born and lived in Dallas in the later 50's, early 60's, but we were on the east side of Dallas. I remember we saw a lot of the air traffic to/from Love field. Remember lots of Connies back then.
