Can FSX and windows 8.0 get along together? What are some of the little querks and tricks to installing and adding aircraft and scenery with this combination? I've been flying FS9 on XP for years but know nothing about FS and Win8.0. Any feedback on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you got 8.0 or are you saying you're thinking of getting it?

I've never had 8.0 but I think 8.1 is the latest version, I've got 8.1 on my laptop and it runs FSX just fine..:)

Thanks for the response. I have 8.0 and I know FS9 is a booger to set up on it. Win10 is the latest but I'm reluctant to switch cause I like 8.0 and I'm use to it. Glad to hear your running FSX on your laptop. What kind of glitches did you run into when you installed it? What should I look for during set up?

None, the installation went without any hiccups at all, FSX chose to install itself into Prog Files (x86) so I just let it go ahead..:)

I already had FSX running fine on my desktop PC with Win7, so I decided to also try installing it on my cheap new laptop with Win 8.1 earlier this year (300 GB pounds/ 460 US dollars) as an experiment to see if it'd run, and amazingly it DID, it runs FSX smooth as silk with all the graphic settings on highish, the framerates are good and there's no sign of overheating!

Maybe I just got lucky, so you might as well try with your Win 8.0 and see what happens.

PS- I don't plan to get Win10 for another few years simply because I don't need it at the moment.:)

I have posted before what happens to me with Windows 8.1 (2015).

Here are some more quirks:

- FSX crashes at least 3 times consistently. Often the third time, it stays working without crashing (not sure why)

- Crashes are usually the result of changing the scenery. A maximum of 1 scenery change per session is my experience

- One way is to change your default flight to another one you like

- Often, using the Map function, I can change the scenery by moving the aircraft to a new one without a crash (but not too far). My

experience is less than 200 miles (not sure why)

- Any way, I am sick of all this bother & have re-installed on an old Windows 7 computer.

- I have stopped buying new products for fsx and will switch to P3SD
