Hey!

I'm interested in buying the MJC Q400 Pilots edition. But the problem is that I absolutely hate pre-flight checks, but setting flaps, start the engines or power the plane isn't that bad. I absolutely hate setting up the fmc. And I'm kind of the simmer who just takes off and then flies to some were till I get bored. I sometimes do flights like Amsterdam - Hamburg (my favorite) but that's really it.

Do you guys think I should buy the MJC Q400 or just any payware plane or should I leave it alone?

Thanks for commenting :)

Sincerely,

Tom

get yourself something like the aerosoft twin otter extended or carenados C208 caravan. It seems you enjoy 'flying' rather than the push button automation of a-b.

perhaps invest in orbx scenery and pop out to papa new guinea for some real flying.

then Id suggest either purchasing air hauler on the cheap and have a reason to fly A-B hands on. or wait for AH2 to be released . .hopefully in time for christmas?

So what you are saying is that it is not convenient to buy the MJC q400? Than that's a bummer but I guess it's for my own good. I'd rather not spend 50 dollars on a plane that is to difficult. But on the upside, my birthday is comming up pretty soon (I'm 15 so that explains why it sounds so childish) so maybe it is a good idea to put it on my wish list?

And maybe a very dumb question, but what is air hauler? And is the aerosoft Airbus series also to difficult?

Just want to add that I use Google all the time when I am looking for a particular plane, add on, like whatever scenery etc etc I get very good responses and usually directed to notable payware companies and even freeware sites for places to look...after awhile I then know pretty much where to go for answers....again just sayin'

Hi Tom,

Yep - I've been out of the picture for the last year and a half or so - I believe the other planes are all Carenado products - while Carenado makes some of he finest visual models around there is a history of some fair to even bad flight models - in addition to some good ones - all I can suggest is to check the unofficial support forum for Carenado over in Avsim and educate yourself before making a purchase... I've been both very happy and very disappointed in their products... Real Air has Rob Young who is one of the undisputed masters in Flight Dynamics... Your mileage may vary... Best of luck...

Regards,

Scott

How about another tactic. Since it's your birthday and you're interested in getting some payware, BUY SCENERY!!Find some payware scenery that includes the route of your Amsterdam-Hamburg trips or to Paro Bhutan, wherever. Buy airport packages that look like your favorite airports & taxi around in them. Enjoy scenery & how it changes with the time of the year. Use real time weather and learn to fly in it. Learn to intercept arcs, fly approach patterns, and run ILS approaches.

Most of the planes already in your hanger will be fine for all of that and you won't spend your life learning to program a computer, then cross your arms and let the plane fly for you! If you want more planes, there are a ton of great freeware ones in this site's library. They'll look good & fly well.

If you like to fly high, Photo Real scenery is excellent. Because it is based on Real Photos. If you like 3d effects and other things like fire stations doing fire-drills, people walking around, etc., try ORBX. I personally have spent a whole lot more on scenery payware than airplanes!

When I RW flew FMC wasn't even dreamed of and a lot of the world didn't have VOR or Tacan coverage, much less GPS. I like to fly with my hands, feet, and eyes. Autopilot is nice when you're changing radio frequencies and such. But it's very secondary to me.

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.

.. But the problem is that I absolutely hate pre-flight checks..

FSX can be as easy or as hard as you want to make it.

All my saved flights open with the engine running, so I just jump in the pilots seat, slam open the throttles and I'm away, I don't need no steenkin pre-flight stuff or long startup procedures!

Also there are oodles of FREEware planes available so check some out before you go payware. I've got about 40 freeware planes in my FSX and only a couple are payware.

If you don't like a freeware download after checking it out, simply delete it and try another, I do it all the time..:)

That's only true for the pre-C337 area. Since the 337 their FDEs are easily in the same class as all the other top add-on designers.

I have a few payware planes, all of varying levels of complexity.

My favourites thusfar are;

Aerosoft Airbus a320/321 = A really great plane but not for the novice. Requires some patience and learning but has plenty of "help" or "preset" features to make it easier. A high quality package at a relatively low price. Good value.

BBS Widebody Prologue - Several airbus models all with similar setups and systems to the aerosoft airbus, but much bigger. A bit more "lite" on features and help systems, but very easy to pick up after learning the Aerosoft aircraft. A bit buggy as its not finished yet but still a nice pack.

CLS 767 package - Extremely simple to fly as it uses the default simulation systems and gps navigation. Just has a startup system you need to get used to but easy to get the hang of, and near identical system to the Freemium 757 from JustFlight.

Last but not least in the slightest is the Quality Wings 757 package. Far simpler in the "sim" aspects, and very easy to fly. It has lots of customisation options, really nice VC and displays, and its a great package. Gets top marks from me, and priced well too.

I have others but Im not a fan and wouldn't really recommend them.

Tom, it sort of depends on the type of plane you want. If you want a small GA plane, then I'd think in terms of publisher: RealAir and A2A aircraft are top of the line in terms of graphics, flight modeling, and realism. No FMCs in a GA prop plane. Caranedo pretty but a significant step down in terms of realism and functionality.

If you want a jetliner, now you're thinking more in terms of the specific aircraft. You don' t want a 747-757-767-777-or Airbus because they all fly by the FMC. So the Captain Sim 707-727-737 might work, the 737 being the best of that lot. The Captain Sim L1011 is quite good and can be set to follow a FSX flight plan. Yes, the Milviz is quite good too.

There are commercial turboprops too, such as the Just Flight F27, and Razbam's SA227. A step down in quality from the above. I'd stay away from the VirtualCol stuff, if you're looking for $50 of aircraft value, you won't find it there.

The Dash is superb but if you don't like FMCs I wouldn't go there, at least not yet. It can be flown without one, but it's an integral part of the experience.
