EZ Scenery Airport Projects Don't Show in New Copy of FS9

Good evening,

I have just recently copied my original FS2004 from an old XP machine, into a fresh FS9 install on a WIN 7 machine.

FS9 functions fine, but I do not see any of the finished EZ Scenery airport projects that I completed years ago on the XP machine.

In other words, on the XP machine, I see all the additional objects added into a number of airports, while I do not see them on the WIN 7

machine.

Would anyone have an idea as to why this might be, and an explanation on how to resolve this?

My routine:

Save XP machine Main FS9 directory off the C:\ drive.

Install fresh FS9 on WIN 7 Machine.

Paste/overwrite saved copy of FS9 over fresh install.

Also looks like I have all default terrain textures, as apposed to the replacement files I used to have on the old machine.

I'd be happy to provide additional information if requested.

Thanks very much,

Neil

Hi Neil, it sounds like your XP install hasn't copied over your W7 install due to not having Administrator priviledge and/or User Account Control is active on your FS9 directory. If you search the FS2004 forum here for FS9 Windows 7 you'll find some guides on how best to install FS9 on Windows 7 and copy your "old" files over.

Thanks Tom & tiger for your replies.

Tom - I should have all the relevant files, as it was a complete save off the XP machine, and a complete copy/paste into the new install on the WIN 7 machine. Unless there are files installed that were outside of the main FS directory???

Tiger - I don't run with UAC enabled....hate it to death. What I can say is, I still ran the new FS directory through a routine/utility called "TakeOwnership", just in case there were still authority issues. No luck.

My initial thought was I should try and add back all aftermarket scenery libs again.

But, I'll also go read up on "how best to install FS9 on Windows 7 and copy your "old" files over."

Thanks guys for your input!

Following up:

After re-adding individual add-on airports sitting in the Addon Scenery folder, I am now seeing those - which is good.

I also have my old GE Pro re-installed, which got me back the ground textures I was referring to.

Now the only thing left to do is figure out why my EZ Scenery airport mods (from the old XP machine) are not showing.

My handicap is after 4 years of being away, I forgot pretty much everything in terms of various installation folders, hierarchy - things like that.

So, I see in the root FS directory a folder called "EZ-Scenery", which contains just 4 files:

.xml/the .exe/.rtf/.chm files.

Where on the WIN 7 box should I be looking for the files that were created when I used EZ Scenery to enhance airports on the old XP box?

Thanks much,

Neil

The resulting BGL files would be inside any active scenery folders that you chose to save them in. Look inside the Addon Scenery/scenery folder, and the scenery subfolders of any scenery folders added as a separate layer in the Scenery Library.

I always put EZ in the name of these files to be able to find them easily.

Hello Tom,

I do indeed see all of the .bgl files that I created back in 2006/2007 in the Addon Scenery/scenery folder.

What do you think would be prohibiting me from seeing the updates in the sim?

I keep feeling like I am close to figuring it out, but can't seem to put my finger on what may be missing, in the wrong place, or not recognized in the scenery hierarchy.

EZ-Scenery only creates .bgl files with object placement data in them.

You must also have the necessary object libraries in an active scenery folder for the objects to show up.

You also might check the Scenery Complexity slider, you might need to move it to the right.

Bean,

I think you just put me on the right path. I turned on my old XP machine, and compared the scenery.cfg file with the newer one (after copying my XP install to my WIN 7 machine, and adding some other scenery) on my WIN 7 machine, and all of the object libraries are missing in the new.cfg file.

It's falling into place, and I know I have the folders where they need to be, now to go re-add them in properly.

Thanks very much for your reply. :)
