glenn copeland gauges!

Recommended Posts

He!lo

Yesterday the weather was so bad here in the UK that I was stuck in doors .

To kill some time I thought I would rein X.

Got all that done .

And have to say sim is running well, although iam only vfring about at the moment.

Anyways.. Can anyone tell me if any off Glenn Copelands extremely useful gauges ie cockpit commander ,seat view change, auto flaps, auto gear etc etc work in X?

The Sim does look great, but I really do miss GCs gauges ,FSnav (I know that is not compatible)and all those extremely helpful aides to flying joy available to fs9ers

Iam not sure at the moment just how far iam going to go with X ,so iam reluctant to spend hard earned money on alternatives to FSnav or indeed any other software, for instance I have no AI package installed at the moment.

Another question

I cannot start the default Maule in X manually ,other prop aircraft fine, but the Maule only starts up using the rather unrealistic cntrl E method.

Another question would the free AI program my traffic 2006 work in X? (I suspect not)

I use it in 9.

Another question.. I have Activsky 6.5 installed in Fs9 ,but when running X if I start Asky 6.5 up ,it appears to be working with X as well although the installation resides only in fs9.

Any ideas about this.

OK chaps that's it with questions for now.

I await your thoughts.

Cheers Andy

Sorry to hear you were stuck in doors!

Any links to these Glen Copeland gauges you referred to?

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

First, I don't have AS.

As far as I know AS is a program that sets the weather type but it does not add any new textures to FS. So I would expect that no matter where the Activesky program is installed it will run, download the weather data, and injects the weather type into FS.

I have no idea if it injects it into fs2004 as well as into FSX, but judging by what you said, it does!:p

MyTraffic 2006, no idea.

If it doesn't, there is also WOAI. (google, they have a website).

Their trafficplans are fs9-type, but can be easily converted into fsx-type if you want.

WOAI also provide the aircraft. All nicely in one package per airline.

Uncanny!

After a few ales ,i have been known to ram myself through the cat flap flap in an attempt to locate those lost Glenn Copeland gauges .

...,

I have located and installed Glenns power seat gauge , it displays correctly ,but unfortunately Xs seat view keyboard selection is different from 9s so it doesn't work.(at least iam assuming that's why)

All GCs gauges are available from Avsim (Avsim is bust (as usual) at the moment so no library functionality)

cockpit commander ,seat view change, auto flaps, auto gear etc etc work in X?

I can speak from personal experience that Cockpit Commander, and seat view change DO work in FSX-SE. Autoflaps also. Take a look at FSX_Minipanel_V3.zip, from in the library here. Several of the gauges in it are from Mr. Copeland, and it works perfectly in FSX-SE. I use it, and I love the variety and sheer number of available gauges. The info it provides during flight is very usefull. There may be a lot more of Mr. Copeland's gauges than I habitually utilize.

I also like that I can install different bits from it into plane's panels at will. Like the Piglet Pave Tac and the ground mapping radar. And CC naturally. That is an amzingly handy little item.

I know it's not the same, but Plan G is an almost suitable sub for FSMav.

As to the rest, I haven't a clue. I'll see about the Maule later today though and get back, presuming someone...ahem...coughbeancough...doesn't beat me to it.

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

Hello thanks for your thoughts.

There may be a little confusion concerning my asky .

I have had it installed in Fs9 for years now.

But yesterday I rein X and although ASky resides in 9 (no part of it is in my new installation of X) when I run it in conjunction with FSX it seems to work.

It recognises X .

Anyways cheers Andy.

Excellent Pat!

I will check all your suggestions out.

A lot to keep me busy.

That little power seat gauge would be really useful because iam finding in X that if I alter the seat height view using the Fsx keyboard command it keeps reverting back to the previous view if I pan left or right.

So I have to keep cntrl Qing .

I have the power seat gauge working fine in the 2d cockpit on my default 737. I stuck it into the VC kinda covering the speed brake annunciator and it worked but I don't like covering a working lite.

I hope this clears up what I meant and doesn't make it worse;)

As I said, as far as I know Activesky is a seperate program.

It can be installed anywhere. Program Files (x86), a different drive, or a folder you create. (Some advise against Program Files (x86) because of UAC issue.)

It runs, you activate, and on first run it may install some modules into FS. (I say may, because that is what ASN does. Not sure on your version).

It does not install new cloud textures into FS. So not in FS2004, and also not in FSX.

You say you installed it "into FS2004 folder".

I guess that means you have a folder called "Activesky" inside the FS2004 folder.

As I said, it doesn't really matter where it is installed. It is a seperate program. Not part of FS. It will start up without FS running just as easily.

(If I'm wrong about this, and it MUST be installed inside the FS folders, please explain.)

Saying it in another way. REX installs textures. If those were installed in FS2004, you would have to also install them into FSX now.

But not with Activesky.

It downloads the weather data, and then feeds fs that information. "clouds like this, fog like this, rain here, not there", that kind of thing.

I think it communicates with fs (fs2004 and fsx it seems) by passing that data to simconnect. Simconnect is part of fs, and is constantly "listening" for info to feed into fs.

Again, never used Activesky myself. Nor Rex.
