About This File

FS98 SAAB 90-A2 Scandia. The 'Scandia' was one of two civil projects at SAAB, initiated in 1944. An end to WW2 was in sight and SAAB prepared for the future. The Scandia was built for short hauls and carried 24-32 passengers. First flight was in November 1946 and resulted in ten orders. The first delivery, to Swedish ABA, took place in late 1950. The cold war put an abrupt end to the project, to make room for the J29, and only 18 units were built. They served in Brazil until 1969. Design and paint by Bertil Nilsson. Moving parts by Mikko Maliniemi.
