About This File

X-Plane 11.50+ C117 1.0. This is not a C-47 or a standard R4D, This is a DC3S or R4D-8/C-117! It resembles and is derived from a C-47/DC3, but is an entirely different aircraft. They are sometimes called Super DC3s or Skytroopers, even Super Gooneybirds. They are longer, have shorter wings with more sweep. The main landing gear is fully enclosed and the tailwheel is partially retracted. They have more powerful engines and are somewhat faster than C-47s. This particular aircraft is a Cold War veteran that has retired to Bolivia and has taken up business as a regional airliner. Beware! This is not a modern-day jet and does not have a glass cockpit. It is slow and can experience torque induced roll. Tracking after landing in crosswinds is markedly different from tricycle landing geared aircraft. I have worked on a couple of Jacques Brault’s aircraft with his approval before. However, I have been unable to contact him lately, so it is with apologies that I used his model to start the build on this plane. Nearly every data point has, however, been modified and moved in this build. I am including Chris Wraight’s sounds and I used one of Bertrand AUGRAS’ pilot figures; thanks to all. By Ron Norvelle.
